I had to laugh when I read this on my X feed. It read so incredibly contrived. Why even put something out there that would make you and the university look pathetically inept? And we have yet another year to see a head coach walk out there without the decency to step down.
The university is also going to have to step up with 20.5 million for revenue sharing next season. I wish we had $$$ like UT or Ohio State. Unfortunately, we were DEAD LAST in revenue for P4 schools this year.
I think itās a money issue why baseball has not been fixed. This is a year old
article that goes into some details. Iāve not seen anything significant reported
in the intervening year that would help on the financial side.
The amount owed to Holgorsen is having an impact on other sports, specifically womenās basketball, softball and baseball. All three have underperformed: Baseball failed to qualify for the Big 12 tournament and has missed the NCAA postseason for six straight seasons under coach Todd Whitting; womenās basketball has three winning seasons and two NIT appearances in 10 years under Ron Hughey; and softball finished last in the Big 12 in its debut season and hasnāt made the postseason under Kristin Vesely since consecutive NCAA regionals in 2018-19. Tennis coach Helena Besovic did not have her contract renewed after the Cougars went 0-13 in Big 12 play. Coaching changes for all three sports would cost between $2.5 million and $3 million, according to a source.
Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but Nunez is giving him every chance to succeed.
Memo to Coach Whitting: Probably best to update your resume, just in caseā¦
It is.
A puf fund certainly helps.
Absolutely. Actually Aggy is right behind Texas. Theyāre #2 and 3 behind Ohio State. Both are valued at close to 1.3 billion.
Who wins more games next year:
Todd Whitting or David Pierce?
Go Coogs!
If TW is good at fundraising why not have him head up the project of raising the funds to cover his buyout?
My read is that this is about the money but not the buyout. Basically, there are some major donors who are fiercely loyal to CTW. So the financial impact goes beyond the buyout.
At least we can now say CTW has been put on notice. Iām not sure what it will take for him to stick around after next year. I think a change shouldāve been made a few years ago.
Watch him win the CWS next season. Lol
I think we all want the same thing. Consistently good. In a 5 year span, 3 regionals and a super regional or two with missing a regional 2 years of the 5 (non back to back) is good enough. Better recruiting the local kids to develop and adding power bats and arms from the portal.
For next year, top 5 in the big 12 and a 2/3 seed at a regional and make some noise. Just want to be a part of all the fun that UTSA and HCU got to have this year.
20 lashes with a wet noodle and if donāt do better next year will be put in time out and no video games for 3 hours
You act like weāre flush.
Iām as disappointed as anyone that CTW is returning. I went from reserved seats to the coupon bundle tickets to dropping them completely during his tenure. Another year of him in the dugout will likely set us further behind where we need to be.
Having said that Iām not ready to throw Nunez under the bus for the decision to bring him back. I have no inside info (do any of us?) but my guess would be that he was limited in his options due to any or all of the reasons mentioned in this thread ($$, donor influence, admin decisions) . Iāve liked the moves heās made prior to this one.
It reads as very Pez-y, very un-dude.
510k is not āacting like weāre flushā.
Womenās basketball paid 600k just for the head coach.
And a new coach gets fans excited againā¦ā¦attendance increase will help pay his remaining 110K.
Going this route just buried the program even deeper.

Coach has reviewed this past season, and he shared with me his plans for 2026 as he understands that our results next year must be better.
I take that to mean NuƱez told Whitting to, at a minimum, āmake a Regional or your butt will have burn blisters.ā
He was limited by his own doing. Again, you have to prioritize programs in your athletic department. Houston has a baseball rich tradition and the program has flat out sucked the last few years. He knew he needed to make this decision in the first year. Baseball should have been number one on the list. Nobody cares about WBB and certainly not softball.
