That discussion should have taken place last year when he first got the job.
Yeah, with Whitting, I look more forward to sticking my finger in a light socket.
Who are these âmajor donors who are fiercely loyal to TWâ?
Have they been paying attention at how heâs sucked in his job and has run the program into the ground??
What would make these âmajor donorsâ think that he can turn things around and if they were confident he could why have him with one yr left on his contract which basically makes him a dead man walking?
Also, it has to be asked, does TW have info on these âmajor donorsâ that heâs basically holding over their head to keep them from firing him?
I can point them out but I donât know their names. I think they are just his buddies more than anything. I am sure their donations will change if TW gets fired but you canât let some donors hijack the program because they are boys with the coach.
Agreed.
This is exactly whatâs happening
I donât know if Iâd assume that. History tells us otherwise. An expectation of the âresults being betterâ doesnât necessarily mean making a quantum leap from where weâve been.
I read the statement as being an attempt to show that Nunez is paying attention to baseball, which has been a question. We could be better and still not be very good, and this statement certainly doesnât read like a mandate to get into the postseason.
It is so disappointing. Guess Iâll be just watching from home again completely losing interest.
I like the fact that there is no extensionâŠ.and I donât want anyone saying itâs going to make it hard to recruitâŠâŠwell, heâs had the last 7-8 years to do something and yet heâs done squat.
Iâm sure there was talk about him being let go in his meeting with NunezâŠ.he gravelled his way into another year but Nunez told him youâll have to do it with no extensionâŠâŠprobably told him if thatâs not okay then your job ends now.
He is basically setting TW up for failure which I am fine withâŠâŠkindaâŠ.we all know ( including Nunez) that he is going to failâŠâŠagain.
I just donât get why we need to waste another fuâkinâ yearâŠ.that extra 110k is not a reasonâŠ.
A contract for a new coach could have been back heavy with easy targets for bonuses after the first couple of yearsâŠâŠdamn sure would not have had to fork out 6ook the first year.
Iâm convinced they wear maroon, orange, or something other than red and white.
Whomever they are, theyâre obviously not really that interested in having a winning program.
I get the wording. Had to be careful with establishing minimum goals. Would put way too much pressure on the players. It ainât their job to save his job, they just want to play ball.
If the players arenât there to make the postseason, then they need to go, too. There should be pressure to win.
That would probably be for the best. VanderLaan cleaned house, brought in 33 new players, and took HCU from a 236 RPI rank last year to 93 in his first season.
Thereâs so many baffling decisions made by TW. From not going after players born and raised in Houston in the portal and thinking that a bunch junior college transfers, will be the magical last piece to fixing all our problems, to not being able to recruit despite having one of the nicest facilities (not schroeder park, itâs a old track wreck with a big scoreboard in Texas besides UT and A&M.
Who knew having one of the worst P4 out of conference schedules and losing some of those games would lead to a sub 80 RPI.
I wonât even be watching from home.
If my math is correct, itâs 400 per game at $10 per
Donât forget about parking and concessions.
It really wouldnât take much to offset that cost.
Iâm sure this has been brought up before, but UH has a lot of obstacles to when it comes to recruiting
First and foremost, Houston has a major youth baseball system in the suburbs/rural areas that feed into rural college programs
UH is not a rural college town, and that alone turns off a lot of those kids. The other issue is the fact that weâve been an average program in G5 conferences.
Unless you can offer talent substantial scholarships (or NIL in the modern era), chances are, youâre best bet is to go after those JUCO / transfer kids looking for that last hope of getting drafted to MiLB
I think UH can improve its recruiting being in the Big 12, but itâs going to need a major culture change (which I hate to say, will have to come with a staff change that sparks nationwide conversations)
Problem is baseball isnât a revenue sport. UH admins have probably held onto TW because of this reason specifically. What is the general ROI of having a good baseball team? There isnât one really at UH. Bragging rights sure, but it provides no money in return, and the type of student that plays baseball likely doesnât even want to be here in the first place
Every college / university excels at a few select sports on a consistent basis. I just donât think baseball is UHâs strong suite despite perhaps some one off seasons where we make the tournament.
Agreed. The real number may be cloer to 100-150 people, but i went bare minimum
UTSA?
