Off The Fritz Bandwagon

I’m just extremely disappointed in the lack of any consistent improvement, one step forward and two steps backwards. Also, same nonsensical penalties, same mundane play calling, and issues with our special teams play.

He still gets a pass from me this year, but those issues are concerning.

I think Fritz will get there but that OC. Oooh boy.

lol. Go check my CKS history. I never have and never will be critical of Sampson.

Nice try, though.

Bingo. He took over one of the worst programs there was.

But people keep bringing his name up here. Weird.

He truly was having to bring people off of the streets. He couldn’t fill a roster out any other way.

Fritz has 1000x the resources at his disposal that Sampson had when he started.

Sampson couldn’t even show facilities to recruits. Just pictures. And he couldn’t even walk them to Hofheinz. lol

And he had no portal.

Should I keep going on for why people should leave Sampson out of this discussion?

I don’t see how you can lose any games with a bigger scoreboard.

I will say many folks wanted to give up on Sampson during his first year. Not saying Fritz is going to be as good as Sampson. Just pointing out the lack of patience people generally have.

I seriously doubt anyone uttered words that came close to getting rid of Sampson after his first year.

Look i see your point but there are first year coaches wbo had bad seasons their first year taking over a program cleaning up a mess the previous coach left.

That’s fine. But this whole one freebie sucky season talk is such a loser mentality to have.

Keep having that mindset and we will never do anything of significance.

Also. Sampson said if he had the portal when he first started, he wouldn’t have had a losing record.

Some coaches are up for the task. Some aren’t. Let’s hope Fritz is the former.

He’s not getting 5 years to turn this around like he did at Tulane, though. And he shouldn’t. If he can’t get the ball rolling by year 3, there should be some heat attached to his seat.

Actually, Fritz big years came in years 7 and 8. He was a combined 31-43 his first 6 years at Tulane. He won’t be sniffing year 7 or 8 here if he does that.

I hear you…and I get what your saying. I’m still on board with CWF…but that said, our Coogs haven’t looked competitive in three or four of our games and that wears on a fan base that is looking for some growth and progress, even if incremental growth and progress, and dare I say hope. I’m still hanging on the CWF bandwagon, but the Kansas game was a stinger. We looked one step above sick and dead.

We just lost by 4 scores to a team that came into the game at 1-5. It was pathetic.

Keep in mind that Kansas has had all close games during their streak. Also, they have a vet QB who was one of the preseason Heisman favorites in Jalon Daniels. Kansas was one of preseason favorites to win the conference. They took advantage of their bye week and looked really good against us.

So what did we do with our bye week?

How has their new OC been able to get his players to improve over the season?

Almost every returning offensive player on our roster is performing worse this year than last, and some of them are significantly worse. The excuses for what has been a generally poor coaching performance are weird.

I took a quick look at our scoring in conference games. In 16 quarters we have scored in 4, 3 at TCU and 1 at KU. We have been shut out in 12 quarters. Our current streak of quarters being shut out is 2. Will we score against Utah?

You sound like a first class beta boy

So how did we go away from the successful strategy of hiring young innovative OCs from successful P5s to hiring grandpas?

I am still with Fritz. We have a QB issue and maybe even a OC problem. Although I am not sure b/c our QB’s have such bad awareness and make such bad decisions that its honestly hard to tell. You can argue that its up to the coach to fix the Qb’s but at some point the talent gap may be so big that one spring and summer of practice cannot fix things. I have been watching UH football since the 2000’s and last year and this year has been some of the worst QB play I have ever seen.

I have no doubt Fritz will fix things but it wont be overnight.

Football is a war. It’s a battle of attrition. You wear down you opponent. Not just play to play, but game to game.

This is a not a good team and doesn’t have a lot of depth. As the starters wear down and/or get injured, their replacements come in and play. They’re not starting for a reason. The cupboard was bare when CWF started. He’s restocking, but it’s going to take time.
.
Comparing CWF to XCTH really isn’t fair. Judas walked into a good situation with what CTL had built. CWF walked into a mess. Also, in 2016, the portal and NIL did not exist. Those are game changers. Both hurt us going into this season.

Let’s face it, UH doesn’t not have the stable of wealthy alumni who have money to burn like some other schools. Can we pay 1,2, or 3 million for a starting QB?

It’s going to take time. CWF has not failed wherever he’s coached. I don’t expect him to start now.

We did poorly during our bye week. That’s for sure. Point is their team has been intact for years with returning starters. They have highly underperformed expectations but still have talent and experience. We really haven’t underperformed expectations set by objective parties. Our disappointment is due to the lack of exceeding said expectations.

Look at who we lost. 3 starting or starting caliber WR’s. 4 starting offensive linemen (1 to the draft and 3 transfers). What did everyone expect?
