Ok, switching to football, how is Spring training?

Any buzz on the new QB?

I don’t believe that we’re among the pre-season betting favorites for this year.

Hoping for some good games. Time to get it rolling.

Hell, I’d just like a Spring training QB update for now.

  1. We need to scrape our way to 6 wins somehow. Get back to bowl games. My prediction when we hired Fritz was he would get us to a bowl game in year 2 and then we would run off a string of them with 6+ win seasons until he leaves/retires. Time for Fritz to make good on my prediction.

Sounds good to me!

I’m cautiously optimistic about 6-7 wins.

I would like for someone to give me an update on the QB situation.

Has Weigman impressed this far?

Football is only 5 short months away.

In the meantime, we have MLR, MLB, and Coog baseball.

6 wins?

We have a cupcake schedule!

Our OoC Conference is 3 Easy wins

  • Stephen F Austin
  • Rice
  • Oregon State (note- they had a mass exodus of talent after the PAC raid)

Then, our Conference Slate is ‘Mid’
Only Arizona State is a tough one, on paper.

Win the 3 Ooc + Win a little over half of our Conference Games gets us to 8.

Colorado will have a new QB and they are still a ‘up/down’ clown show
Texas Tech has our number
The rest of our opponents
‘meh’

anything less than 8 wins is a colossal fail by our coaching staff.

Oh don’t worry. We know that.

It’s just that as bad as we were last season
we need to be cautiously realistic about how great a leap forward we’ll take.

8 wins is very realistic.

Hopefully, we do a little better but we need to stop setting the bar so low.

Arizona State made a huge jump
same with Colorado the year they landed Prime
why can’t we?

If our new QB is ‘as advertised’ 8 is our FLOOR

Tech loaded up on ALOT of talent from the portal. Not saying that it will all gel for them but if we’re talking about matchups on paper, Tech has a damn good team on paper.

I’ll give you Texas Tech since we never seem to be able to beat them.

Here is our schedule:

vs. Stephen F Austin- WIN (1-0)
@ Rice WIN (2-0)
vs. Colorado LOSS (2-1)
@ Oregon State WIN (3-1)
vs. Texas Tech LOSS (3-2)
@ Oklahoma State WIN (4-2)
vs. Arizona WIN (5-2)
@ Arizona State LOSS (5-3)
vs. West Virginia WIN (6-3)
@ UCF WIN (7-3)
vs. TCU WIN (8-3)
@ Baylor LOSS (8-4)

8 wins is VERY manageable

Oh god ANOTHER loss to TT crap

That looks promising, however, Zona kicked our butts last season and WVU will be out for revenge from a few years back. Also, hard to say how UCF will be. Our all-time record against them isn’t so great.

I would say that we can safely pencil in wins against SFA, Rice, Oregon State, Okie State, TCU (based on last year anyway), and perhaps one of the following: WVU, UCF, OR Baylor.

That gets us to 6 wins and a bowl.

Not sure I’d put money on the rest, though I’d love for your prediction to come true
and hopefully include a win over Baylor as well!

They lost their OC which has to help

So if the expectation is 8 wins, Weigman must be having a heck of a spring.
There you go Law, finally an answer for you!

Why set expectations so low, we can beat everyone

On paper, many Big 12 teams will look quite a bit different due to how many they signed from the portal, UH included:

WVU, UCF, Arizona, OK State, Kansas all signing 20+ new players (Kickers, Punters and Long Snappers not included).

Of the 17 Tech signed, 11 were the equivalent of 4 stars in On3’s rating system and 5 were high three stars.
Compared to UH’s 19 where 1 was the equivalent of a 4 star and 3 high three stars

Do ratings services know what they are talking about most of the time? Not really, so this doesn’t mean a whole lot but “on paper” Tech loaded up

That being said, most college football pundits, Phil Steele included, had Arizona State as one of the worst football teams in the Big 12 and we see how much the portal can change a team.
