Cool picture in the Chronicle today.
Yep thatâs what what it looked like back in the day. When I was in schools baseball was free to attend and the school radio station carried all the home games
Itâs a good thing we have the new stadiumâŠâŠfor all the regionals weâve been hosting lately.
Iâm hoping since we start getting more from the Big 12 there will be several much needed changes starting with baseball and womenâs hoops. Both programs are an embarrassment to the University of Houston.â
I love every kid who elects to attend our great University, but they too deserve better
I could not agree anymore with you ButchâŠ.changes should be made soon.
I would like to see a new grandstand at the baseball stadium.
Well I would like to see a new coachâŠ.and you ainât getting what you want until I get what I wantâŠ.
So first wish goes to me @UHCoog
Seriously, how does TW keep his job ? His program has so woefully underperformed for years itâs just sad to watchâŠZERO NADA ZILCH excuses itâs been allowed to fall this far off a cliff. Football, we all know the challenges but Baseball, No Sir, not in this area. I refuse to throw in the towel, the right HC can turn this ship around immediately and get us back where we belong
Check the rosterâŠâŠtell me how many of the top HS kids in the state are on itâŠ.then tell me how many of the top Houston area kids are on it.
And when you actually see one ,which is very rareâŠ.what happens with that player?
Ex. Conner Bennet, Tristan Russell.
We all know baseball in this city is played miles outside of third Ward as gone are the days of going to Lamar, Bellaire and Westbury for quick impact HISD kid.
Are there in abundance of suburban players that actually want to attend Houston for baseball? Out of state kids are an easier sell
There doesnât need to be an abundance, just 5 or so a year.
Thatâs the new improved old Cougar Field! Note the red vinyl siding on the plywood lean-to⊠I mean press box, the matching vinyl-clad bleacher seats, and the upgraded cinderblock dugouts that made the first five rows unusable. You can see the first base side bleachers were already torn down as construction on the new stadium was getting started. That really pissed off la st fans. I can still remember one of those inbreds, holding a baby, taunting a UH player who was going to retrieve a foul ball; âYou donât need the ball, you need a new stadium!â Good idea Uncle Jed, weâll get right on that just for you. I wonder if Uncle Jedâs baby grew up to be as slow-witted as his daddy/uncle?
Absolutely.
Sure, when it comes to âWhere is my dream school?âUT and A&M are tops on most kids minds.
Then you have LSUâŠ.Outside of those three most kids hold UH in the same esteem as TCU, Tech,Baylor, the Oklahoma schools and maybe Arkansas or Vandy.
I am telling you for a FACT that UH is right there in the pecking orderâŠ.yes, the rep has taken a hit the last few yearsâŠ.but itâs not from bad performances as much as there is no connection to the showcase coaches and lesser to HS coaches .
Do you really think UH is reaching out to all the top kids and striking out? Lol
I have coached tons of highly talented D-1 players over the yearsâŠâŠmany of them would have gladly played for UHâŠ.but wound up at other Big 12 schools, SEC, etc.
You gotta ask thoughâŠ.
You gotta build/fix relationships.
I remember being one of the very first individuals in the new stadium before it opened in 1995 (prior to Rayner Nobleâs first season as coach).
I actually saw the first âunoffcialâ home run hit as I stood along the third-base line during the Coogsâ batting practice session (canât remember who hit it)âŠgoing on 30 years ago now!
I was even given brief credit by the SID department for naming the large mesh wall in the outfield the âScreen Monster.â Donât know if they ever kept it or notâŠhaha
UT baseball stadium is so beautiful, 1000% going to that series vs UH
Never been
Never will.
Guess I am a tad delusional to think coogs fans will travel to a roadie for UH baseball haha
Iâll never go to Austin again for a UH game. The last time I did that was the football game in 1990. Never again
