The zone read is an integral part of this offense; he will run it just like Ward did. He might not be as big of a threat as far as scrambling, but teams will have to respect him as a runner because he has enough speed to pick up first downs. I think as long as we can line up and hand the ball off to the running backs and let them do most of the work, there shouldn’t be much concern for caution. I also believe the H-Town take over isn’t all hype and we’ll win any game that comes down to the 4th quarter. As long as we give ourselves a shot, then we can build on that as the season goes on.

LSU coach Ed Orgeron, his former boss at Mississippi and colleague in Baton Rouge, said it won’t be long before he gets a healthy raise.
“Frank will probably be coaching at a school in the SEC or a power five school,” Orgeron said last week at SEC media days. “It won’t surprise me.”
Former UH QB, now with UTSA

Q: Before transferring to UTSA, you were at the University of Houston. How was your college experience at U of H?
A: It was amazing. I got to experience everything I ever dreamed of as a kid. I was able to receive a championship ring being (American Athletic) conference champions, and also being bowl champions after beating FloridaState University (in the Peach Bowl). I got to learn from great coaches like Tom Herman (who is now the head coach at the University of Texas) and Major Applewhite, who was our offensive coordinator at the time and is now the head coach at the University of Houston. But I felt it was best for my football career to transfer out of Houston and continue playing at UTSA.
While this is an away game, there will be a boat load of UH fans there taking away that advantage. We have better athletes and our defense is stellar. Last time there under Levine, we needed a huge 4th quarter to pull away. Won’t happen this time. We lead at the half, pull away in the 2nd half. I predict a big win.
They are a very tough out at home opening the season. See AZ, ASU, UH
If you ever listened to Coach Bill Yeoman, you would understand that UTSA also has ~90 athletes on FB scholarships.
And, for those predicting a big UH win, isn’t this about the same thing you were thinking (and/or saying) before the Navy and SMU road games last season?
we are to UTSA this year what Oklahoma was to us last year and they are going to throw everything they have at us, including Grandma’s walker. We are going to have to be ready and motivated or we could be embarrassed. We are the better team and should win but Oklahoma, Louisville and Florida State fans all thought the same thing.
I live in SA as well. Anybody looking to get together hit me up. Please do not overlook UTSA. They play with a ton of grit. Their kids get after it. Atmosphere will be rowdy. Our guys better come ready, which I believe they will. UH pull out the W but I have a feeling it will have to be well earned.
I’m not predicting a big win, but let’s not pretend this game will be at all similar to Navy and SMU last year. The biggest difference will be our coach won’t yet be shopping for a new gig. If CMA is focused on getting our players ready, I think we come out with a comfortable win even if it’s not a blowout. Being the first game of the year with new coaches and a new QB, I do expect some sloppiness. But I also expect our defense to shut them down. In fact, I expect our defense to win us more than a few games this year.
Best Case
This is the year. The depth chart is loaded, young talent is emerging. A senior quarterback, senior laden offensive line, very good front seven, good corners, and the right coach. It’s time. This team has the potential to win ten games before their bowl trip. That’s the expectation and the Runners are embracing it.
Worst Case
That said, there’s always a chance that injuries or inefficiency on offense could cost the Roadrunners a couple of games. There are six losable games on the schedule. Houston, Baylor, Southern Miss, North Texas, FIU and Louisiana Tech are all going to be tight for various reasons. UTSA must remain focus and take care of business.
