Projected starter out for the year
UTSA’s season opener is still almost two weeks away, but the coaches and players are beginning to think about their first opponent.
Specifically, how the Roadrunners’ offensive line is going to block one of the Houston Cougars’ best players, terrorizing sophomore defensive tackle Ed Oliver.
“It’ll take all of us to (contain) him,” UTSA coach Frank Wilson said of the Maxwell (national player of the year) and Bednarik (top defensive player) awards candidate.
Ed Oliver is just a sophmore now? That is impressive.
Yep, a Soph with one more year to go before going pro.
thats awesome. Big asset for next season too.
Per the agenda book for the August 23-24, 2017 meeting of the UT System Board of Regents, Wilson’s guaranteed compensation will start at $900,000 on September 1st and increase to $975,000 annually throughout February 28, 2022, an overall contract extension of two years.
This raise to a $900,000 annual salary makes Frank Wilson the third highest paid coach in C-USA but reaching any of his incentive benchmarks would allow him to jump David Bailiff’s $903,000 salary, making Wilson the second-highest paid coach in C-USA behind Lane Kiffin. While coaching salaries are always shifting, this pay raise brings Wilson into the high 60’s/low 70’s in overall FBS head coaching compensation.
----------
Under Wilson’s new contract his future employer will owe UTSA $1,200,000 if Wilson were to leave before February 28, 2018. The buyout will decrease to $900,000 over the following 12 months, before further decreasing to $550,000, $250,000, and then $0 annually.
I think Frank Wilson will be a big name at Ole MIss for that vacancy.
The biggest issue facing Allen is that we have NO speed receivers. Dunbar and Bonner are incredible blockers and possession receivers. But I cannot remember them once running free past a CB for an easy six the way someone like Edwards or Marshall would.
This means the DBs can play closer to the LOS and help support the run.
When Ward hit these guys with deep passes it is because he broke containment and the DBs lost their men.
Some real speed would be nice. We have good WR, just not the type to whom you can throw deep.
Ellis Jefferson has some speed.
Who did we lose last year that was blazing? There are tons of receivers on this team with speed. Getting them on the field and them staying healthy is a different subject. Also, Dunbar, and Bonner are a tough duo to stop because they are very technical and can get separation. I’ll take those two any day of the week as long as they can help move the ball. Speed isn’t everything.
D. King looked pretty good in the slot.
Remember, the Alamodome has a new clear bag policy.
