RG3 was told he would have to switch positions.
Manziel was told to switch positions.
Luck was told they were going after Garrett Gilbert instead.
Ward wasnt recruited as a qb and was told to walk-on.
Mahomes like Winston, was ignored by UT.
Mayfield got turned away.

With all due respect, the last year Brown coached UT was 2013. Thank you for the trip down memory lane.

Yeah less of a Mack brown thing and more of a UT thing. Mack has even admitted that towards the end of his time at Texas recruiting got away from him and he stopped evaluating and signing off on everyone himself. Now at UNC they have had great qbs and Drake Maye will be a top draft pick this year
I hate to say it but we passed on Drew Brees as well. He wanted to come to Houston, Helton didn’t think he was tall enough.

If Brees wanted to come to UH, it would be a first for Austin Westlake QBs.
It is very true. There were others that Helton passed on.

Undoubtedly Winston as a middle schooler saw Young make UT great again against a juggernaut Southern Cal. Brown could’ve done so much more with that momentum. They should’ve been the team to start a dynasty after the 2009 title game
Insert Georgia, Transfer Portal, and Juco and you’ve got the present coarching regimes recruiting plan - Oh and PWOs too of course

Nick Foles was another qb UT told to look elsewhere despite setting records at Westlake.
Add five four-stars from this still unfilled class and the last two. I also have some concerns about relying too much on the Portal. I thought it was a good strategy as a G5 school but that we should probably cut the transfers we’re taking in by about a third. On the other hand, our starting QB, RB, two WRs, possibly TE, three offensive linemen, one defensive lineman, a linebacker, and two or more in the secondary came to UH from the Portal, and all are talented.
I love the portal better than HS recruiting for us in OL.

If you’re not getting a blue chip, it is a crap shoot.
I was going back and forth a with friend who is a big time Oklahoma State alum and fan who researches and follows OL play religiously. He said, "Good HS OL go to blue bloods. It’s like that across board imo. Big 12 teams are all just trying to develop OL with upside.
