OT: Baylor Fires Dave Aranda

He’s not a bad DC and a hell of a LBs coach.

Wouldn’t coaches reaching out to players currently on other teams be a recruiting violation? I think the player has to make their intention to transfer known first through the portal. But I could be wrong. Seems like rules are changing so fast. But you’re right, we need more speed at linebacker and getting good Houston players back home is always good.

NCAA rules allow a special 15-day transfer portal window 5 days after a head coach has been fired or departs, and a new head coach is hired or publicly announced. Baylor has not hired or announced Aranda’s replacement, so the special 15-day transfer portal window has not been triggered.

I’m not sure of the exact window. It was more of a meme post than literally suggesting they call today. If he does decide to portal I’m sure he could pick his school. Kid is a dawg. Flys around the ball, fast, smart, rangy, can tackle and has great closing speed. Would easily boost our LB room.

Coach Art Briles with his 1-million dollar buyout at Eastern New Mexico… Bad timing to go winless in 2026!

This is the perfect time to have a bye week.

Hopefully not our recruiters but what an opportunity!!!

This is pro sports at this point the players all have agents I am sure the agents are out gauging interest as we speak.

This is a sidetrack but Art Briles recently saw his Greyhounds score 54 points…and lost.

Tell me he went for it on 4th and 22.

What, from Riley’s LA beach mansion to Waco is not the same?

RG Griffin III wants a shot at HC.

It is tough to win in Waco but Art was able to do it.

One season removed from an 0fer and he saved our program. His famous 5 minute plan.

Honestly where the B12 messed up was not kicking Baylor out of the league after their scandal. Ofc then they could’ve back filled with us! Lol

How we was able to do that got him into trouble though.

I can’t see that happening…with his lack of experience.
But who knows about what happens in Wacko. That place has some pretty bad athletic historic. Also read Aranda gets a
$12 million buyout. Unbelievable profession.

In late October 2026, RG3 made headlines by publicly declaring that he is “100 percent” interested in the vacant head coaching job at his alma mater, Baylor University, following the firing of Dave Aranda. Despite having zero coaching experience, the 2011 Heisman Trophy winner stated he has already spoken with Baylor’s athletic director and believes the program needs leaders who know what it takes to win in Waco.

Baylor hiring RG3 for head coach has UH hiring Clyde Drexler written all over it.

Former star player: :heavy_check_mark:
Never been a head coach, or heck, any type of coach: :heavy_check_mark:
Never assembled a coaching staff: :heavy_check_mark:
Been out of the sport for over a year: :heavy_check_mark:
Never recruited in the age of NIL: :heavy_check_mark:

RG3 is a comical choice to be the head coach at Baylor.

I am pretty sure that the folks at Baylor are too smart to take a chance like hiring RG3…still…we’ll see.

Some of the interest in RG3 is due to the talk that QB Phillip Rivers is one of the leading candidates to take over the North Carolina St. job.

At least RG3 actually wants it but still think it’s a fair comparison.

Not only has Phillip been Coaching his sons teams for years but he also has been at the center of actually developing offenses along his past HC’s and OC’s. rgb does not come close to Phillip.
