OT: Holy Holy Wars Batman! ND reportedly dumps USC rivalry in favor of BYU!

WOW!!!

Just WOW!!!

ND may not play its biggest rival again until 2030, if even then. That rivalry has been played close to 90 straight years, and is the only “intersectional” rivalry of any real consequence.

Allegedly, USC wanted to play at the start of each season in order to minimize the impact of possibly losing late season games when it comes to getting playoff bids.

ND apparently said “no way.”

And get this: ND plans to replace USC by playing the TRUE….HOLY WAR game with BYU!!

The chocolate milk runs freely in Provo today, boys.

All jokes aside, I am excited for that series. Should be fun. BYU has a fun schedule next year. October should have both Holy wars in it. Without seeing competition it feels like it could have a couple morning shows lined up for those games.

Absolutely embarrassing for SC. Lincoln Riley is the biggest coward in sports.

Should be a fun series. Chance for BYU to impress.

I’m happy for BYU, especially since they’re in the B12. More so, they were kicked to the curb years ago much like Houston, despite having a greater following than their state rival, Utah.

Cal dumped BYU last week and I thought we were hosed for an OOC game. Nice surprise!

Given the history of ND buying out return games last time this patches that up very nicely. Hat tip to ND for doing a H:H and coming to Provo first.

This great for BYU and the B12. For USC, this seems to be a side effect of joining the B1G. Play hardball with scheduling and if you don’t like it, we’ll get someone else. I think the only fans bent out of shape are the older fans.

I don’t blame USC, Notre Dame is the one that needs help scheduling quality opponents late in the season, the Big10 will put plenty of quality teams on the USC schedule. Notre Dame would not have problems if they were in a conference.

Yeah true.

Maybe they will join the SEC now.

Yormark may have killed any Big 12 chance.

I cant believe Notre Dame would do away with their biggest rival because they only want to play at the start of the year…Admittedly, USC attitude is strange…They played ND at home at end of the season for decades when they were in the PAC. What has changed now? But ND doing away with their biggest rival?? CRAZY!

Especially strange because the rumor is that byu notre dame will be in October

How is that?

ND only plays USC on Thanksgiving week in years when they are playing in LA.

It’s usually a mid-October week game in South Bend years.

But it’s NEVER Game 1, which is what USC demanded.

@Cullen

Any thoughts?

With the loss of this rivalry, it now appears that pretty much ALL rivalries will be regional.

How is that?
Is USC vs indiana a rivalry?
No
Sure USC vs ucla is indeed a rivalry but same can be said with Cal or Stanford.
uta and atm have nothing in common with bama, georgia or lsu.
The only rivalries that matters are the ones that created college football. Meaning regional rivalries.
This is why espn is ruining college football.
espn goal is to have an nfl like college football with 32 teams aka a minor league. The nfl loves it. They do not have to spend a dime.
