Not even close. There are probably 15 rivalries in the SEC alone that have more relevance.
True…maybe it has very little appeal for those in Texas and the Southern States

It’s a consensus top five college football rivalry.
In the SEC, only a few would compete.
Maybe its a big deal in Indiana but in California, USC vs UCLA or Stanford vs Cal are way bigger deals.
Growing up in Texas, I’ve never heard a single person talk about the huge USC/ND rivalry and how important that game is to College Football.

Now Michgan/ Ohio State…THAT is a Rivalry the whole country knows about.

That game always got national level attention.
It gets national attention because its a match up of two big time brands but the impression I have is that the game really doesn’t mean that much to the USC fan base (can’t speak for the ND side).
It’s HUGE from that side.

Then Houston is a horrible college football town because i know zero people HERE who plan their schedule around the legendary USC/ND game.
It’s not even mentioned…might be popular on the West coast…but not here.
Like I said…Stanford and Miami came to mind first when i heard ND rivalries.

ND and Miami has hardly been a thing since the 1990s, and Stanford is no better than ND’s sixth or seventh biggest rival.

Think: USC, Michigan, Michigan State, Pitt, Purdue….in THAT order.
Again…for the blilionth time i AINT much of a College Football fan…im a Houston Cougar football fan.
The Post SWC BCS era was excruciating to live through because UH had ZERO × INFINITY chance at winning a National Championship so i definitely was not going to watch that crap.
Now…they sucked me in wirh the playoffs so NOW i pay attention more but by then…USC v ND was something that was out of sight…out of mind so long…it was never viwed as important to me.
There are many other Matchups that have taken its place in THIS part of the country
The cancellation may not be permanent. I read this morning where ND has only cancelled the next 2 games and scheduled BYU instead. Maybe good sense will prevail and they will resume playing after that…At least ND and USC have time to talk to each other and try and work the scheduling problem out…Hope they do, because its crazy to cancel ND-USC!!!
