OT: Louisiana Governor Wants Live Tiger at LSU Games

I was around when UH brought the real Shasta to games. I also remember her cage around Lynn Eusan Park. It was not a natural habitat for the Cougar. Not a fan of live mascots at games but some fans want a live Cougar at UH games.

Yep I think we should build a glass cage at the stadium or a portable cage and bring them on game day. It would make for a better fan experience.

Baylor has two bears behind glass on campus. I would love that!

Idk

Kinda sounds messed up if you ask me

Let’s take a cougar out of its natural space just for football fans for a day? It’s going to be severely stressed out

Even zoos piss me off but hey

LSU would bring Mike the Tiger out before the game and drive him around the stadium once and then back to his cage which was pretty nice. Any zoo would be proud of the environment they have for him now.

Memphis does the same thing with their tiger.

It is cruel to the animals, and it’s a huge liability. There’s a reason why they stopped bringing Shasta to games and the tradition of a live mascot disappeared for decades.

They had one when played them in 1996 in Baton Rouge.

I was there. I saw it.

They have a mike the tiger habitat next to their football stadium.

Sweet

Shasta was at our Astrodome games for many years as well as going to road games

I remember Earl Campbell rushing through the end zone against us over at Rice Stadium and plowing into Bevo.

TBH…I don’t think wild animal mascots belong at football games.

I remember Earl Campbell introducing himself to Bevo at Rice Stadium. Thanks for the memory.

If he wants a live Tiger at games, he’s an idiot. Wild animals do not belong in such an environment. It was always heartbreaking walking by Shasta in the cage on campus when I was a student.

Mike the Tiger is living the life. His habitat cost $3.5M, and 15,000 sq. ft., and according to LSU, includes "lush planting, a live oak tree, a waterfall and a stream evolving from a rocky backdrop overflowing with plants and trees. LSU added enhancements to the habitat in 2017, at a cost of $950,000, funded through donations from the Tiger Foundation.

If UH had that kind of money lying around, I would recommend keep Shasta at the Houston Zoo and use the money for NIL.

Its been discussed actually, to have a Shasta return to campus. They’d build a huge, spacious exhibit for them and UH would have to classify the area as a level C Zoo

A live tiger? What could possibly go wrong?
