Discussed amongst who? Coogfans or the decision makers?
What happened after he ran into the cow?
Itâs well-documented that many animals are, in short, absolutely miserable in captivity, much in the same way that humans would be if we were kept in an area the size of a zoo exhibit. They often (though not always) live shorter lives than they would in the wild, and the animals often show behaviors that are consistent with boredom and stress.
Zoos suck real bad if you care about animal welfare at all.
Itâs not a dog or a horse or a house cat. Theres a reason why most schools dont do live mascots.
Bevo mooâd pretty loudly (we were right above him/her in the front of the endzone seating near a corner), Campbell probably never flinched, and they beat us by a couple of touchdowns.
Do they still have that tiger at that truck stop on I-10 around Lafayette?
Shhhhhh, donât tell the virtue signaling zoo haters how they get their meat and chicken.
No, they replaced it with a camel for a hot second until they had to get rid of it because it sat on some lady who climbed into its cage and (this is not a joke) she bit it in the balls. Now theyâre done with live animals.
Setting aside the fact that vegetarians do exist, I think thereâs a worthwhile argument to be made that animals in zoos have worse lives than free-range livestock. Itâs also likewise fair to conclude that none of that matters because humans outweigh animals to such an extent that our entertainment is worth their lifelong suffering, but that line of reasoning also justifies stuff like dog fighting and horse meat. Ultimately, though, Iâm not a fan of spending money on a zoo ticket to see animals that are so miserable they have to be doped up on prozac to just look relatively normal.
Zoos take in animals that canât live in the wild and take care of them. They also preserve species, especially endangered species, with the goal of introducing an endangered species back into the wild. Itâs way deeper than just your thought of capturing and keeping them as pets.
Conservation is a small minority of what Zoos do. The overwhelming majority of animals held at zoos are there for entertainment of a paying audience, with little or no prospect of being released into the wild.
Haha, animals there live way longer there than they probably would in the wild because of how well that they are taken care of. You should watch the show âSecrets of the Zoo.â
I guess we should take Shasta out of the zooâŠIF thatâs truly how you feel.
Some of them do, some of them donât. âWay longerâ is, in most cases, an exaggeration, even when they do live longer lives. But many Zoo animals are social creatures that absolutely appear to suffer psychologically when placed in captivity. Many Zoo animals are given Prozac and other antidepressants to maintain an appearance of normalcy.
Thatâs not to say that zookeepers donât care deeply for the animals they keep, and form social bonds with them. They absolutely do, and I donât doubt that they believe what theyâre doing is in the best interest of the animal. Thereâs mounting evidence that theyâre wrong about that, though.
This is a good idea. 2 greyhounds would be cool
Personally, Iâm relatively indifferent to the existence of Zoos. I think they do harm to the animal, but Iâm really unsure as to how much I care about that. But with that said, I can say with some confidence that Shasta almost certainly isnât happy or content in the Zoo. I donât think itâs good for him.
Wasnât Shasta at the Zoo a rescue?
Is that what Shasta told you?
The 2 cubs were rescued after they lost their mom. 2 cubs that probably wouldve died.
Iâm sure theres both good and bad about zoos but i dont think we need shasta at any game.
I see plenty of live cougars in section 125 all the time. But yea I wouldnât mind more
