same winning? You cant clone CKS. I hope Kellen is successful but to expect the same success is me being naive. Our best days are what we are witnessing and what we will see in the next three years. I hope we win the NC. But that will be it. Miracle does not happen that often.
Honestly, im trying to picture a Kelvin to Kellen transition. What results would look like
Realistically, maybe a Roy Williams to Hubert Davis transition at North Carolina
They preach the same message, but the message is received differently by the players
The assistant coach, taking over & winning at an elite level? Where have we seen many examples of that (Scheyer at Duke)
Dude was making $3M and complains about the game becoming “professional.”
Compromise would be giving up money. Not sure the benefit for the school with a December departure or the benefit to him with leaving money on the table.
Yes, giving up money. Both sides want out of the deal and both have a buyout. So both compromise to get out of the contract and give up something.
This appears mutual. Miami is going nowhere this year. It doesn’t matter if he leaves now or in February. Miami is now the first school looking which carries some value.
He gets to retire and stop losing to the likes of Mt St Mary’s. He doesn’t want to coach another 3 years and Miami doesn’t either. Something has to give.
The difference between our salaries and NIL is the people who are paying our/my salary own the business and are making a profit.
The people who are paying NIL don’t own crap and are getting nothing in return.
Why anyone would pay for someone’s salary for a business they don’t own is beyond me.
We need to cut to the chase and sell the teams to a private equity firm. Lease the the facilities and have a royalty agreement based on the use of the name and colors. Then let the for profit entity make whatever for profit decisions it needs to make. Just make sure they sign a long term lease arrangement, I would hate for the Houston Cougars to end up playing in Nashville.
NIL will start getting handled through the athletics dept and they will have to generate that money through the revenue streams - ticket sales, merch, advertisements, large donations. Hence, teams with larger fanbase will have an inherent advantage. This whole idea that NIl will somehow show up from certain Individualsis not sustainable. It can happen once, maybe twice but thrice, probably not.
I think the number is 97.7% but your point is still valid.
This analogy makes no sense at all. Courts have not gotten “soft”; they are following the law.
Interpretation - now the laws are weaker since their giving everything to the students?
The fault of this isn’t the courts. It’s on the NCAA and the college presidents.
The previous model of stupid money for coaches and schools (even if most schools spent it all) wasn’t sustainable. They could have gotten ahead of this but chose not to. Now it’s a free for all.
Eye on College Basketball opened with it.
Boozer twins were alleged Miami locks until a late 360 to Duke.
Probably his moment of truth.
Must still have legit NIL to even be in the mix.
Before I get all snarky, did you pick these schools ironically? Like if I just missed the sarcasm in a message board no big deal.
These teams are just off the top of my head in my lifetime
Cool it also appears I misread your post. Glad I didn’t try to be a smart arse there
Those schools also had either generational coaches or players.
UH has the coach in CKS but we need that generational player or players.
When Florida won back to back in 2006 and 2007, they did it with Billy Donovan who went on to the NBA and had a trio of Noah, Horford, and Brewer.
UConn had Jim Calhoun just finding that one guy to carry the whole team to the championship whether it be Emeka Okafor, Shabazz Napier, or Kemba Walker.
Villanova with Jay Wright had NBA guys like Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, Mikal Bridges.
Courts, and prosecuting attorneys, IMHO, have NOT been following the law, or at least enforcing the current laws on the books. They have, in fact, become much more lenient in their decisions, both in both who to prosecute and what sentences to pass out. I’ve been paying attention for years now.
What a hypocrite. He didn’t mind NIL or the portal when he went to the Final Four with 3 transfers in the starting lineup in 2023. Cry me a river.
But now former Florida State guys have sued the coach
Can’t make promises with text messages but hell was some of them worth $250k?
That’s the issue I see now - we’re promising folks cash before the output is given - I rather just cut them an end of year check based on revenue and output
I guess the cost of attendance money , free housing, food and tuition just isn’t enough anymore
I mean if they promised something in writing then it’s kind of on them. If any other business situation has a written offer and is also accepted in writing, that’s pretty rock solid if they fall to honor the offer.
It’s always been enough for the back benchers, and will likely continue to be so. Just like it was never enough for the premier players it’s just out in the open now. Which yeah sullies the image we have, no one likes the wizard behind the curtain.
