OT: Neal Brown criticizes WVU in first interview since being fired

That’s not much of a slam.

Another casualty of lack of resources and NIL $. We are entering into the brave new world of the haves and the have nots in CFB.

Heartland is not much of a publication, IMO.

Yeah…WVU is going to struggle mightily in the NIL era

They will be the new Big 12 doormat for decades.

Same with Oklahoma State

“The overall feeling to take away from Brown’s interview was one of gratitude and sincerity for the time he and his family spent in Morgantown.“

The 52-15 road loss to TTech lost it for Neal. Is Tech a top resource program? Academics are similar to WVU.

There’s tons of money in OK. It’s all invested in OU unfortunately

They quoted Brown. They don’t have to be the WSJ.

I’m not referring to the article, but Heartland as a whole, I thought that might be clear.

Tech has way more money and resources than wvu. Not sure how academics changes that.

I cannot see such a fate for West Virgina or Okie St. The cowboys do look lost without Oklahoma though.

One of the rules of business is: Never burn a bridge. but it sounded like Brown wanted to get a couple of shots at the administration and fan base without really doing it. Ya can’t have it both ways. It was still a cheap shot.

I didn’t read it, but did he talk about burning couches?

Is NIL the only reason you see WVU as a future conference doormat?

Their attendance is solid (better than ours for every sport) and merchandise sales are miles beyond what we have. Yes, the state is not wealthy by any means, but I feel safe saying their alumni base will be able to at least compete in the NIL department with the rest of the conference.

Their biggest challenge is recruiting kids to Morgantown to then play schools nowhere near them.

Yes …3 reasons.

  1. they won’t raise enough in the donation part of the NIL
  2. they play in arguably the least marketable metro in P4…so no corporate NIL opportunities
  3. constantly remaing in the bottom half of the Big12 will slowly reduce the quality of recruits they get.

High school kids are very young and only remember who you are now.

Like i said…Houston, UCF, and Cincinnati are setup to run the Big 12!

Fair points… then you stumbled on the the dismount. :joy:

I think being in large metro areas will help us, Cincy and UCF, but to think massively popular state schools like Kansas, Arizona/ASU are going to fall away is a giant leap.

Stepping aside from NIL and looking at revenue sharing… while we might be able to reach the max dollar amount of the revenue sharing cap, the percentage of our budget needed to reach 22 million will be a big hit compared to our conference mates. We’re sadly in the poorhouse in the revenue department and WVU is sitting soundly in the middle of the pack.

WVU’s brand is strong. They have plenty of negatives going against them, but they’re not going to be a doormat.

Kansas, Arizona/ASU, Colorado and Utah should do well but the West Virginia’s, Iowa State’s Kansas State’s, Baylor’s and Texas Tech’s of the world will find NIL UNSUSTAINABLE
