Houston Chronicle beat writer for the Houston Texans, Jonathan Alexander, has the Texans taking TE Tanner Koziol in the sixth round in his final mock draft. NFL Analyst Lance Zierlein also has Koziol going in the sixth round.
Lance Z has CB Latrell McCutchin, Sr. going in the sixth round.
Lance Z has RB Dean Connors being undrafted and being a priority free agent.
So I was listening to a clip from Pro Football Weekly this morning with Mike Florio and Chris Simms. They mentioned last night that Jay Glazer posted “some really big news”, relating to today’s draft. but Glazer did not go into details. Florio, jokingly speculated that it may be the Texans trading C.J. Stroud to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The absurdity continued by speculating the Texans would then sign Aaron Rodgers.
Simms said there is no way the Texans trade C.J. Stroud. He did say the Steelers would take Stroud. That’s when Florio joked the Stroud for Rodgers trade.
Man I know that Tanner Koziol is supposed to be a bad run blocker by NFL standards but he was second in the country in TE receiving yards and seemed to just catch multiple balls every game. Reminded me of a poor man’s Kelce in the passing game. IDK, feel like a ‘smart’ NFL team will get him in that 4-5 round range with an idea of how to use him on the field to his strengths. Watch him go undrafted though because what do I really know
The Texans trade up from #28 to #26 and take G Keylan Rutledge, from Georgia Tech. According to the NFL draft rankings, Rutledge was one of the top 5 Guards in the draft, but what stands out, is he ranked as the #1 Guard in terms of athleticism, and it wasn’t particularly close, according to the grade assigned for athleticism. Rutledge played Guard the past 2 seasons and can play Center.
Here’s what Texans got and what they gave in draft so far:
Houston Texans 2026 NFL Draft Picks
The Houston Texans made their first move in the 2026 NFL Draft by trading up to the No. 26 overall pick from the Buffalo Bills to select Keylan Rutledge, an offensive guard from Georgia Tech Yahoo Sports**+1**. This was part of a deal that also sent the Bills’ No. 28 pick (and a No. 91 pick) to Houston, while Buffalo received Houston’s No. 28 pick, a No. 67 pick, and a No. 167 pick Sports Illustrated.
What I saw on one of the stations was that Koziel was ranked as the #9 TE. I don’t remember which or who’s ranking that was. Tanner is a tad undersized for a TE and his blocking suffers a bit from that. I expect him to be taken in the 6th or 7th rounds and some team will get a huge bargain.
I think Carlos Allen will be our first Coog to get drafted, but that’s just my idea. I also think Dean Conners will either go in 7th round or become a free agent. Other than those 3, I can’t come up with any other Coogs to get drafted right now. There may be one or two, but I just can’t think of who they might be.
