What does “now” have to do with it? Next year the revenue sharing goes into effect adding another $20 million per year or more on top of “NIL”. Where do G5s come up with that? Where do most Big 12 or ACC teams come up with that extra money?
Not really hard at all.
If the player did not do something to earn the money (ie. autographs, be in commercial, store appearance, etc…), then it is pay for play. Also if they did something but the pay was not near market value, then pay for play. Giving a high school kid a $100,000 for an autograph can easily be proven to not be market value. There are professionals that an do appraisals, and if they give a $20 valuation for something someone paid $100,000 then it is pay for play.
The problem is going to be all the other players on the team not on other teams.
One guy gets 10Mil and what does everyone else get.
You might argue that it happens now with the NFL. In theory those guys are more mature and can handle the situation. The resentment between the have and have nots will be enormous.
The English adjuncts are going to be teaching millionaires.
Prep-to-pro used to happen in the NBA, and they seemed to handle it. Same with the development academies of basically every soccer team the world over, outside the US.
YES, they will. All the top players? What rubbish…We already have a commit from the top QB in the country for 2026, a national top 10 player…Coach Yeoman used to laugh at all the blue chips aggie and whorn would sign…“we’ll get our boys and they’ll get their boys and then we’ll go play, and we’ll see who wins.”
the playoff slots already will have 2 for Big 12 and ACC…along with 3 for BIG and SEC and 2 open slots, one of which will almost always be for Notre Dame. NIL is going to have specific amounts paid for specific positions. Up to the schools to take care of it as they will. There will never be any P2/ M2 division…Win the conference championship and go play! Thats what players do, instead of spending 24 hours a day crying because some school gets more TV money than they do.
We will see in a couple years depending on how they set the rules
I will be more optimistic when he actually signs.
False. The current rules state the top 5 champions get in. There are no current fixed rules giving 3 spots to the B1G or SEC.

False. NIL cannot be limited according to the courts. It is the ability of players to make money off of their likeness. It is not pay for play so positions cannot be given salaries ranges. period. A RB gets offered a million to be in a national TV commercial, no school can stop it regardless of what other money he is earning.
It can be checked as actual NIL, but that is it, and that is not happening.
When salaries (revenue sharing) begins, that can have limits based upon whatever schools agree. That could be a fixed amount such as $20 million or it could be a percentage of revenue by the school. The second would be really bad for schools not having $80 million media contracts. There will be no limits provided by position that all schools must adhere to.
It is not about playing the game, it is about creating a fair playing field. If you like bending over and just taking what is given, that is your choice. But fighting for a fair game is not crying. It is being proactive and standing up for your team.
Guess we just have different perspectives.
You’d need a new TV contract each season then too. Because the media value will depend on who is in the Big Dog division and the other divisions.
They couldn’t get him to de commit so they throw an insane number out there to save face - what freshman qb has proven their worth so far? That kind of money you better win the title in year one
This whole thing is just so ridiculous.
If you bothered to actually check, the champions and the open slots is for this year only. The 3-3-2-2 plus 2 open formula is what we will have for several years after that.
Please provide link
I spent 3 minutes looking and per the “exhaustive” results by google, your statement is still False (but close). This format is not just this year, but next year too. The discussion of 3-3-2-2 was for 2026 and it includes a 14 team playoff, ie 3-3-2-2-1 with 3 at-large.
Two articles in March (Feb was early articles for proposal). One was from ESPN saying they were close to approval according to sources. The other by BleacherReport saying it was approved according to sources - again for 2026 and 14 teams. No official release of the format found in my 3 minutes, and I would think that would have been big news.
The NFL needs to fund a minor league in football and let universities get back to having college athletes. The Ivy League has it figured out, why can’t other leagues. We (all universities) can still have a competition with the best possible “strident athletes” and go from there.
Guess LSU couldn’t match the bag
Not good. They can reroute that now…to basketball.
Nah, they have to pay up to keep the rest of FB class too. That will be their priority over hoops
Portal rules need change.
If a coach is fired or leaves, then the kid has the option to transfer with the coach to his new school or he has to sit a year.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.
NIL does NOT create parity.
It simply makes the rich richer and increases the gap between the haves and have nots.
Only the BIGGEST brands have the money in their fan base to really reap the benefits of NIL.
THIS is proof of that @UH1927 , isn’t it?
LSU still w great class but that hurts.
State of LA loaded for 26 class.
WF will be visiting.
On 1 of the ESPN Baton Rouge show.
LSU Collective has 3 NIL funds of $ 500k as an NIL “bonus”.
Nail a commit, bring a day 4 guy back for senior year, etc
In 23 w Mason Smith DT and others did not take it.
Top 10 pick (junior now) Will Campbell got that $ as a bonus.
LSU had that $1.5 million.
That Barstool guy just 1 of dozens of huge Mich backers.
He gets that monthly from being 1st in NE on legalized state gambling referrals.
Once the kid gets $3MM to $10MM does he need to attend class?
I mean the idea of college is to get prepped for the job world. The top talent will have no incentive to study anything.
Are we going to see a bunch of basket weaving majors to accommodate kids who want to play for the money but don’t spend any time studying.
