“SEC teams are required to schedule at least one additional high quality non-conference from the Atlantic Coast, Big Ten or Big 12 conferences or Notre Dame each season”
SEC putting on the Big12 okay okay
Alabama schedule 2026:
- West Virginia
- USF
- Florida State
- 9 SEC Games
This isn’t what Saban fought for!
Well we know UT and Aggies wont schedule any of the Texas Big XII so we can eliminate those two.
This a good thing for the B12 imo. ACC is expected to follow suit. Puts all the P4 leagues on the same standard of 9+3. Also the mandate to play at least one high level game should induce SEC + ACC teams to look for H&H with other P4 teams which should lower their leverage to demand 2 for 1s.
Snap reaction…
Nothing the SEC and Big 10 do is good for the Big 12 or UH. It’s all part of the ultimate goal of being as exclusionary as possible.
They could have mandated play vs bigger opponents or whatever without the extra conference game. But, they didn’t. The extra conference game is tied to the self-serving advanced metrics.
Also, you’ll see how the scheduling works out. They’ll use it to choose which of the “have nots” they ultimately want to invite when the SEC and Big 10 facilitate the breakaway from the NCAA.
The biggest issue that’s been brought to light in all of this is that UH’s habit of scheduling garbage needs to end immediately. UH will never get an at-large bid to the CFP with crap like Rice and SFA on the schedule. Never. Garbage opponents will kill them in the new “advanced metrics.” They could be 12-1 with a loss in the Big 12 championship game and they’d get jumped by a 3-loss SEC or Big10 team (edited).
Worth noting that as of right now, the ACC mathematically cannot follow suit. They’ve proposed that they could by including games against Notre Dame in the conference standings, but that’s one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard.
Doesn’t a team actually have to win against a stronger Sos
It will interesting to see their records once this is done.
Sec was king of easy non conf games to keep more bowl eligible teams
UH will usually follow a formula of 1 G5/FCS + 1 P5 + 1 G5 most years for non-conference.
Please no more FCS games! ![]()
Our SOS needs more bulk and no cupcakes which will be critical for any postseason activity aspirations.
I accidentally deleted a post responding to you yesterday, but this decision to jump to 9 games only leaves me further to believe that SEC will expand with 2 schools to ease out the schedule for everyone → UNC & UVA
Otherwise, I agree with you, 9 games with the current 16 teams is only going to hurt them in the long run
No…this has been proven time and time again.
The tough schedule…with a loss, or two, trumps a school with an inferior undefeated schedule.
Hopefully it’s only by 1 game as in sec at 9 and 3 is equal to a 10 and 2 big 12 as a draw.
If it’s a 2 game disparity , it’s a huge problem for us.
I do agree the sec and big have tougher slates but a 1 game difference is ok with me but not 2
Can’t have a 9 and 3 sec over a 11 and 1 big 12
Do we have any evidence whatsoever that a Big 12 team is even capable of boosting its schedule to the point that it’s seen as comparable to a P2 schedule? Or is this just a bunch of hand-wringing about things that are outside our control and not winning at a rigged game?
I mean if you want to be one of the only remaining members that continues to refer to the power 2 go ahead. But its marketing
If i AP rank 7 SEC teams in the top 15, then of course week in and week out is a quality win or loss.
But i dont buy it, and i will forever wonder why so many of you continue the power 2 BS knowing damn good and well the Big12 competed at the highest level in all three major mens sports.
-ASU
-UH
-Arizona
Mind you all new comers to the conference at that
Also if yal think ASU is not going back2back, youre out of your mind.
Kansas is my darkhorse
UH may get a call back from UT or TAMU if the game is played at NRG, but I doubt UH would do that on its own. It would have to be the Texas Kickoff game early in the season or the Texas Bowl. The game would certainly generate major buzz in these parts.
Answering both questons here:
- @T-Moar - It’s not really about boosting the Big 12’s schedule. What the Big 12 must do is establish a core set of programs that will consistently make the CFP (just as the SEC & B1G have a core set of schools that consistently will make the CFP). All we can hope for is that UH is a part of the core. Otherwise, having 1 or 2 new Big 12 schools in the CFP every year isn’t going to help build Big 12 credibility
- @DannyCougar - I am actually not confident at all that ASU will make the CFP again. If you look at their schedule from last year, they had numerous very close call games. I have UH as the Big 12 darkhorse this season.
This year is going to be a season of the following questions
- is ASU going to be a consistent winning program for the Big 12?
- Can Texas Tech buy a CFP appearance / Big 12 Championship?
If both those questions are debunked at the end of the season, then it will make the Big 12 look bad.
The SEC & B1G will always have the bias just from sheer analytics. The Big 12 & ACC (really just the Big 12) has many hurdles to overcome before we get taken serious. The ACC has Clemson and Florida State which carry much of the conferences’ weight.
It has not been.
A name school…with a loss, or two more, trumps a school with a non SEC or B1G schedule.
