OT: Texas State to New Pac 12

Maybe Texas State can hire Herman again lol

I doubt UTSA, Rice, UNT are worried about Texas State.

When I went to UH, Texas State was known as Southwest Texas State. A party school that was the backup option for kids who couldn’t get into UT, A&M and UH.

I thought those people went to TT . . . . .

I went to a season opener there some years back and ate at ihop after - the students there were more interested in getting to Austin that night for a random UT game - never met a excited alum from there

They have the luxury of taxing 40k students with athletic fees so they can experiment - UTRGV is next since they have 33k

Trust me this will get old - when they realize most of the fanbase can’t even get to opposing games without some type of major travel plans

My good friend that is a TxSt alum used to talk about all the students wearing UT gear on campus…

He would always say ā€œYou didn’t get in broā€¦ā€

The talk is adding UTSA or Rice as travel partner.

Like a non-conference?

I’d go with UTSA over Rice, North Texas or UTEP

Honestly - the next bold move for a FBS league in the south is to get Jackson State to move up - they bring a fan base better than most bottom-feeder FBS teams - but it would be hard for them to give up traditional games in place of playing teams that don’t move the needle plus the SWAC has a better bowl deal and more desired game than those leagues but its worth kicking around

Would be cool to see, but they are broke broke. I think it’s more feasible that we’ll see ULM drop down to FCS than JSU moving up to FBS

Not happening.

Next PAC add, if any, will be UTSA.

Broke? lol not fbs rich but could hold their own much better than a ULM who shouldn’t have ever went up to begin with, etc - your non-conf games on that level now bring in a million plus plus they do well at home for their games so it could be done if they got total buy in but like some have said is playing in a bad fbs league worth it to start?

No worse than McNeese mysteriously being wanting to go fbs now when they haven’t been relevant in football for years :joy:

UTSA is not going to PAC. It’s less money and they have to pay a big fee to get out of American.
