OT: The Texas Longhorns Will Never Win the National Championship

This is the mindset that you had when UH was in the G5?

Thats the way it is, and nothing’s going to change it.

I understand that point, but I guess the only answer would be to say that in basketball, there are lots of “low major” conferences in which the teams have nowhere near the facilities, program expenditures, and revenues that the top five basketball conference (P4 plus Big East) programs have.

And yet

despite that

the champions of all of those conferences get a playoff bid, and at least a nominal/notional shot at the title.

Why not football as well?

That’s what I like about the D3 football playoffs.

EVERY conference champion gets an auto bid. There are also at large bids in each region. It is now up to 40 teams.

Wow - Based upon the aforementioned discussion about levels of funding and budgets being determinative, then UH probably shouldn’t be allowed into the playoffs because we’re more similar to all of those G5 Champions than we are to the college FB blue bloods in the SEC and the B1G.

Be careful what you wish for!

Fun fact: Bowl games were originally just exhibition games.

They still are.

You can yap all you want about blue bloods, but if we win or come in second in Big 12, we’re IN! Thats it
Up to us to go out and whip those people, which we have never had any problem doing before.

The CBB playoff is also 68 teams! So not a comparable situation to CFB at all.

UH is part of a P4. Also it now is earning a lot more revenue and should see a rise in fan support.

However, I think if P2 ever decide to go their own way, I would be worried about UH being left out. Even if the P2 want to skim the top ACC and B12 schools.

Which Texas schools (if any) makes it to the skim list could well come down to which one UT and A&M support,

It should matter a lot. Because essential you have a bunch of small schools that decided they wanted to play at the highest and have access to all the benefits that brings. By giving them a guaranteed spot you are denying that spot to a more deserving P4 schools that plays a much tougher schedule and invests a lot in its athletics.

The big boys would never agree to an auto bid for G5s. That means less opportunity for P5s 2nd and 3rd place teams.

The point being, as I said, we need a LARGER playoff.

Not as large as D3, because that division is far larger, but large enough to get every conference champion a bid, just as they do in D3 football and d1 basketball.

UT is closest to it since 2004-07

I hate ut

This right here . I agree :100:

So, we’re okay with playing them to pad the schedule and stats, but not in a post season game to determine a champion!?

Every P4 champ does get a bid
as to G5 champs, if their record and ranking is good enough, they have a chance for an open slot, which will be available
auto bids for all champs? Forget it, this isnt basketball.
