How about we embrace it vs complaining. The school is finally doing an entertainment area which we all wanted . It’s right by the basketball, baseball and close enough to the football stadium. Complaining about walking is ridiculous. They have cars right or UH shuttle.

That Pantry Foods was always an experience. I remember when it first opened…I was amazed how something new could already feel so old. The MacGregor HEB is amazing.

I’m not sure if UH or the city owns this land south of the UH Technology Bridge, but it would be a great place to move the intramural games. Of course it will need to be cleaned up, some trees cut down and configured.

This. Some of the most valuable land is freeway frontage. I’ve been advocating for two decades that we could have been generating revenue and adding to campus if 1-45 at Cullen had a Pappadeaux’s, BW3s, Chili’s in typical suburban pad form.

It’s fine for access and to not overwhelm campus with less parking or crime if it’s at the edge. I think it makes sense at the lot next to TDECU because the police are there. It’ll moonlight as a place to tailgate and shop, and it would force people on campus with access to the rail. We would need to fix the crime, and there would have to be police there more often, or it will fail fast. It will be an abandoned strip rather than a Rice Village type. Another good place would be to remove the parking lots on that side next to Spur 5. You also don’t want to cause more traffic for a campus trying to remove car traffic.
Looking at it now, it wouldn’t make sense for the green lot since it’s too far inside, and UH was wanting to lower vehicle traffic around campus. The other thing is the lot next to TDECU is not big enough. You need stores and a lot of restaurants, and in order to do that, you need a big piece. The only thing that makes sense are the fields, even if it takes away from a grand entrance.
I still think that the stadium should have been there.

They could make a frat village if they wanted in the green lot. I think our administration is anti-greek though.
If, before that could happen, they would need to make the platinum lots into garages (which I think is the plan) to move green lot passes into garages and use that space for more dorms, buildings, recreational, or greek row. But then the greeks wouldnt tailgate infront of the stadium i dont think.
Also Georgia Tech with Tech Square.

You are so right. We can’t move the stadium unless you have about $600M’s hidding under your mattress. Putting our very own entertainment district by I-45 is a game changer. The amount of constant advertising is priceless. At night the sky can be lit by a giant UH strobe light. Flying in blinking UH lights red lights to be seen. Some of you complain about walking? What about a trolley that goes back and forth? Will name it THE SHASTA. Seriously friends if this happens this WILL be a game changer. I played intramural soccer and funished undefeated. So it will be bittersweet but this about making stuudents BECOME the PAW. Let’s face it. This part of I-45 has always sucked thanks to the City of Houston and local politicians doing nothing for us and TSU. This will be a big F Off to them. If this happens this will be MONUMENTAL for our future.

The point about it being by 45 so less traffic inside the university is a good move bc UH is trying to become more walkable inside its core. Also like said , people can access it off 45 and easily see it vs it being hidden inside campus which will draw students and regular people to create more foot traffic to make it work.

What about those party shuttles the group peddles. Those would be fun for students and move people back and fourth from the dorms. Call it the Shasta mobile.

It’s CRAZY how overpriced the POST is.
idk how they stay in business, but can understand why they’re not able to fill that place up with long-term vendors/booths.
Don’t get me wrong, I want them to last, but part of me wonders when the bubble’s gonna burst, so to speak.

yeah it is far from the dorms but if it is an ‘it’ place the on-campus students will flock there either via walking or taking internal campus bus system. Being close to 45 is trying to pull some of the public into the scene too which makes sense financially and will help give it more of a ‘bigtime’ atmosphere. If done right this could be a GAME CHANGER for UH and I don’t use that word lightly. I honestly wouldn’t worry as much about the location as the quality of buildout.
