Food halls are great, there’s one downtown you can go to between bars, and people that work there can easily duck in for a quick lunch. But POST as something you need to drive to and park at doesn’t seem sustainable imo, especially because it is so expensive. Once you’ve tried it there’s no reason to go back.

It’s also really convenient if you happen to also be seeing a concert there.

I mean one with houses and not condos in Bayou Oaks.

They are not building us a second fraternity and sorority village because we don’t like the existing one, we will see sun canopies build over TDECU stadium before that happens.
Well, it’s kind of like Robertson Stadium. It existed but they ended up building a better one. Canopies would be wonderful though.
If UH is going to have substantial Greek life, it’s probably going to have to at least start largely as a grassroots thing. It seems like the University believes that the demand isn’t there, which means waiting on University support is folly. But as we recently saw with Penn State, there’s nothing requiring frats to be university-sanctioned. At the end of the day they’re basically just social clubs and if the students want that they can make it happen.

It’s up to the frats to build things up. The Greek scene was more robust 10-20 years ago.

The problem about our fraternity scene is we don’t do it like the big boys, when I rushed I cut and packaged absolutely zero cocaine.
Seriously from an alumni prospective, Bayou Oaks was a godsend everybody hated on, mostly because it is controlled by university rules, but our alumni board did not have the money to maintain an off campus house when it opened, it got better but everybody’s numbers are down post covid.
I still remember the night I almost got arrested for telling off an RA, only for her to say who is that, he is not Shaun, Shaun’s a short blonde guy when the police took me to her. It was strict but we still threw some ragers back in the day.

I don’t see UH ever having a Greek system on par with the State Flagships. That doesn’t mean it can’t have Greek life that contributes to the overall college experience. I’m from the days when South McGregor was UH’s version of fraternity row. Those days are long gone.
I think the Greek system would benefit if UH required freshman to live on campus, but I know that is a hot-button issue and not everyone agrees. UH as commuter campus also limits the student population that may be attracted to Greek life. If you are age 25, married, and have a child, you are not likely to be interested in Greek life.

As far as I know, even most of our on-campus students are largely disinterested in Greek life. UH just isn’t the kind of school students go to for that kind of thing. Plenty of other large public schools are like us in that regard, especially in large cities, even in the B1G.
You and I probably had the same experience. I was a fraternity member’66-70.
I think there are over twelve houses that were once on campus and have left for various reasons. UH is a far more prestigious place now than it was in 1966. I suggest that all the houses that left be contacted to see if they have any interest. Many of those groups have local associations. Plus they already have some level of alumni support.
I think you could revitalize the Greek System with some effort.
I have spoken at length about what type of facilities are needed. We need to wean ourselves off of the notion that Greek Row must be all Southern Colonial Mansions.
I do believe the Greeks enhance the school and all of its activities. However, I see absolutely no support for it from the administration. It is an easy fix so it could have been done had it been desired.

CoogFans complaining about something that is going to be spectacular for UH in the most visible area for the university. It’s at the main entrance for all our sporting events. It is close to a couple Student housing with another proposed. Silly to think this somehow needs to be right in the middle of all the dorms which will be right around the corner or down the street from many of them.
This is what many have been hoping to see for our campus for years.

And if UH buys the remaining Fingers Parcel and move the track and fields infrastructure to it plus replace TF area with more dorms it will be a vibrant environment! Game changer indeed!!!

For some reason the administration has never promoted the Greek system. I was there in the sixties and my Sigma chi brothers are still the ones I talk with and attend UH games with. A great avenue for supporting the university as an alum
