Apparently they had a falling out with the Dynamo stadium and will be utilizing Thorne Stadium as their primary home stadium this year. All of their games will be played there except for Homecoming against Southern, which will be played at Reliant.

I wonder if they can get a stadium built on campus eventually
I believe that was part of a master plan the university released a few weeks ago.

I think the turf situation prevented us from having them play because there are some open dates that line up - especially having southern in town for homecoming on 10/24

So I saw.
This year’s TSU v PVAM matchup may be one of the best ever.
My brother told me TSU didn’t show up to schedule their games.

That’s right, @uhmump95. But it can be much, much worse. TSU was using Shell Energy at no annual cost due to a $1.5 million payment and pressure from the city and county at the time of stadium construction. TSU had priority scheduling rights for the stadium with priority even over the Dynamo. All TSU had to do is show up and reserve its dates. TSU didn’t do that this year, and the Dynamo and Dash picked up a lot of fall weekends. Worse, the contract states that if TSU doesn’t play its games at Shell Energy, it is in breach of the contract and loses its priority rights. We shall see if the failure to reserve dates in 2026 puts TSU in breach.

Yeah, this is bizarre. How do you just not “show up” to claim your home game dates for your school’s most visible athletics (and, in the Ocean of Soul’s case, your most visible co-curricular) program?

This quote from Ralph Cooper (who’s been covering TSU athletics for almost 60 years) is very telling:
“In my opinion, this is the most dysfunctional period of time of Texas Southern operations in regards to administration on the campus.”
That’s a big statement given all the other times of Texas Southern operations in regards to administration on the campus in that timeframe.

Don’t believe what is written - there may be some truth but there are other factors that never make it to the public
You really think after 14 years mysteriously no one shows to a meeting despite both parties having access to master schedules for 4 years?
Now if Robertson / Tdecu is available for Labor Day Classic 2027 do they offer a sweet deal to get in on the action?
Side note - Kevin Sumlin’s son is spending his grad year on the tsu football team - he was at the game yesterday lol
I wouldn’t call (or imply) this was a hit piece by any means. The writer is very pro-HBCU and covers TSU closer than most (he lives here).
I would imagine there would be some actual dialogue between TSU and the Sports Authority. Both sides should be communicating well before the deadline. And after, to be sure there’s no miscommunication.
It’s not that hard.
Fighting the hard fight things don’t look good but I will not give up.
