Frettita center or toyota center. They would need a practice rink also
Menās soccer is the way to go. With the diversity of our enrollment and the local talent available, soccer would be a great addition. Plus, another opportunity for a rivalry with SMU.
Renovation construction cost can add up quickly. So can renting a venue like Toyota Center, and a practice facility.
I think we are leaving $8M in the rearview pretty fast.
Back in the 70ās, we had nationally relevant Menās Tennis and Swimming. Iād guess that if we were ever in a position to add menās sports, it would be soccer, tennis and/or swimming.
Hockey is an expensive sport. With so few teams in the area, itād be travel-intensive. Iād guess more scholarships needed, and more assistant coaches than the other sports, not to mention building or renting a rink year round. Our recruiting would mostly be in the northern states. Really expensive.
As for scholarships in the menās sports, limits are 9.9 in soccer, 9.9 in swimming/diving and 4.5 in tennis. Meanwhile, hockey has 18 scholarships.
Weāll never see hockey on this campus unless itās a club sport.
I just donāt see us having a hockey team.
I was told that UH menās tennis was a dominate program. Wasnāt in Houston then so canāt say.
One of the dumbest ideas Iāve seen.
The more we talk about it, the more Womenās Beach Volleyball makes sense. And also Womenās Gymnastics.
Let the letter-writing campaign commence.
Congratulations
Toyota center for games then the practice rink. I added the extra amount in there because Of building the rink itself.
Also 18 scholarships on tuition alone is like, 400k. Housing grant can be in the lofts or something If they wanna live in the icon they can use NIL
Iām more thinking on how much revenue can be generated from Hockey in Houston
Near Bellaire and Southwest Freeway.
Thereās also the old Aerodrome, the Memorial City ice rink, and the Sharpstown Ice Center.
But as I said, if Illinois hasnāt been able to start up such a program, then thereās no way UH will be able to.
Womenās gymnastics and menās lacrosse or soccer it is!
Iām actually surprised Illinois hasnāt been able to start one. In terms of conference, B1G holds a majority of hockey participants.
I went to UIC for about one week (true story). They had a hockey team at the timeāthe UIC Flames.
By god, if Arizona State University can start a D1 hockey program this decade, so can we.
Somebody get me the phone, I have to call The Renu and put a bug in her ear about this.
What is Hockey?
Why not use the money to get out of the red? We donāt need to go further in the hole financially.
UIC ditched its D1 program in the mid-90s.
Illinois main campus explored the idea of adding the sport, but it hasnāt happened.
Football is king in Texas and UH football isnāt even self-sustainable. I doubt seriously that UH hockey would generate any revenue. NHL, yes⦠NCAA⦠Doubt it.

Well it might be the kind of āhorse hockeyā that Colonel Potter often mentioned on the TV show MASH.
