My Italian grandfather came over from Cefalu, Sicily to Ellis Island with his four brothers in 1922…JUST BEATING the crackdown on the number of Italian immigrants.
Whole conundrum of race was created intentionally, in this country by the white land owning gentry, it was created by the elite to separate white indentured servants from black indentured, both had a chance of manumission. Then Bacon’s Rebellion (read up on it white & black indentured slaves rebelled, little something you will never see discussed in American History classes, ever)that changed the whole dynamics of race relations in this country. They the the elites came up with a system to separate the 2 groups. To prevent the 2 joining forces in the future. They decided to make blacks permanent slaves because they were melanated ( dark,) and justified it with passages from the Bible children of Cain and Ham B.S. for some whites to this very day who believe there lack of melanin makes them special and superior) To separate the 2 ethnic groups I say ethnic because science has debunked the race thing. We are all part of one race the human race
Are Lynda Carter and Ted Williams White? I mean, race is a silly construct with no basis in biology, of course, but put that aside and apply the racial categories as they are most commonly applied in the USA to those two.
I’m Mexican (100%) with my grandparents being from Mexico, but I am light skinned, was always made fun of by my cousins growing up for speaking “white”, and I cannot speak fluently in Spanish.
Therefore, I consider myself to be white in some aspects. I also reject certain aspects of Mexican culture because I feel it holds us back.
I really don’t care about race, but I also understand that race plays a huge role in American capitalism mainly due to historical racist policies.
Have you ventured out to Sugar Land? Its started in the 70’s (50 years ago) and its still a really nice place, no pot holes, no run down areas. Still vibrant.
Do they have college degrees? The NYT says it’s a degree vs non-degree thing vs race in voting patterns. Maybe urban/rural and north/south influence as well.
I’m a minority that was born and raised in Texas but when you look at me, you would never think that I am a Texan but from another country on the other side of the world.
Hispanic homelessness is relatively low compared to African Americans
That’s probably because Mexicans are very family oriented, and they look out for their family members economically regardless of the affects, which is why it’s hard for some Hispanics to get ahead socioeconomically
Ex prisoners, the uneducated, the poor, they all support each other in Mexican culture. Also, fatherhood is very much important and those that leave their wives are very much shunned.
Younger Hispanic generations are expected to provide for their parents financially in many families
I would NEVER organize my life where I intend to leach off of my Children, if anything, I would take pride in helping them start a self sufficient life.
