He rose to challenge and I’m sure would have been loved
Thanks for sticking around and letting us in on what it was like
Thank you
You’re welcome
Not sure if you can or would be willing to answer this, but does that trailer accurately reflect Dana’s personality?
I know trailers can paint a narrative to draw interest, but it was definitely quite shocking in some regards
To a certain extent, perhaps. I’m sure he made sure to put on a show for the cameras though
What was shocking in that clip about Dana?
The excess profanity probably
The guy who directed this documentary told me that he was really down to earth and cool hang out with. I’m sure a few things were for camera, like that “Let’s get players who have good genes and we will be good” part but I think for the most part that is him.
He told our crowd to F off in front of everybody.
I was not shocked by the video
I know coaches use profanity and show anger within a program at times. It’s more common than not I would agree.
However, it’s just the choice of words between the profanity. The context knowing how the season was going and ended as well as his tenure being cut short.
Not really. He had the language of course, but he really did go out of his for his players. Some more than others I’m sure, but made sure Derek had everything he needed after his season was ruined. Took care of Alton quite well after his injury, always inquired on Freeman’s mom and her condition. He really did care as a person.
What did you think his work ethic was like?
Understand if that’s one you don’t want to answer, no pressure
That I think was in response to Derek and his conversation after he broke his hand and had surgery then played 2 days later at UTSA. Derek said I’m playing, coach said “is your brother a freak of nature like you” and he said “yes, it’s in our genes”
Yes, I know. But that walking conversation seemed a bit made up in advance. lol
I think the job Dana was offered was drastically changed almost immediately after he took it.
Dana didn’t expect to join the Big 12. Probably didn’t expect the portal. And definitely didn’t expect NIL.
People are quick to point out UCF and Cincy, but both of those programs already had momentum whereas Dana was trying to fix what was given to him by the previous staff, and then immediately trying to rush to catch UH up to even higher standards.
There’s things about Dana I definitely did not like, and it’s clear that the Renu/Board of Regents had positive/negative opinions, but I don’t think Dana was the best choice for the job after all the new factors. There wasn’t enough time, and I don’t think Dana had the ambition given the job he actually wanted.
He brought UH a championship appearance and sent multiple guys to the pros including Derek. Can’t take that away from him.
I was asking Twinmom
From what I gathered from Derek , he was at the facility a lot, early and late. Derek was usually one of the last to leave and he would still be there. As far as anything else, I’m not sure
Yea it did seem scripted
as i understand things, even a relatively “lazy” head coach has to put in time that would put most office jobs (outside of a select few that you can probably name off the top of your head) to shame.
That he didn’t spit red bull while dropping f bombs
