OT: we’re are the not the only ones struggling with fan support

US just isn’t a soccer country it is what it is

This is totally different from UH’s attendance problems

Misery seeks company? How about trying to get out of misery?

College sports is on self destruction mode in my opinion and I think you will eventually see many fans opt to stay at home and watch games on television until that gets to0 expensive.
I love my Coogs, always have and always will, but I can see where not only UH fans, but fans all over the country may be reaching a breaking point with the rising prices while schools throw obscene money at athletes to come play pro sports in their programs.
Yes, UH has attendance problems, and we have tried to reason why for many, many years.
Can UH ever become a go to school…the answer is yes.
But I think many of the go to schools are going to battle the same attendance problems in the near future.
If so, I am still rooting for my favorite University to become an even greater Institution of higher learning, and yes, a go to University like it should be.

I don’t buy this because the SEC is seeing record applications for admissions

Houston needs to win to get butts in seats, and it wouldn’t be so bad if we got some sort of Shade cover over the stadium

Other than in their kid’s soccer, I don’t know anyone that actually follows soccer. I know Houston has a team and it’s followers may be avid; but I wouldn’t know.

The lack of demand for world cup tickets is entirely related to the ridiculously high prices and not necessarily lack of interest. FIFA has effectively priced out most Americans out of the world cup.

This is now a corporate event. They don’t care about the average potential fan.

Soccer has always struggled in the US. Decades without a REAL league to develop players and our product (players and game) being maligned by the europeans and such, really does not help the fanbase. Not to mention the whole politics involved in US Soccer and the fact that the mens teams has not qualified for the world tournament in a number of years now does not help either.

I’m just hoping we can make it out of group play. That would be a win. :frowning:

Would the average Houston sports fan be able to name one Houston Dynamo?

That’s a problem.

I scored tickets to a World Cup match in Atlanta…

… only because my sister-in-law won them from her corporate gig. They were the right price for me: FREE.

Otherwise I would not be attending any World Cup matches. Even the Houston games, which don’t require travel, are outrageous.

I have an Airbnb about 15 minutes away from the stadium if you guys are looking for housing.

Two bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchenette and free parking.

DM if you know anyone who’s interested

The excuses of winning, times, opponent, heat or shade seems to only be Coog fans. How can a school average 100K and not be winning championships? We played for years in air conditioning and it was an echo chamber. Start over with students, let them all in and try to build a fan base with them. We can call it the 100 year reboot.

It used to be the B12 will solve it , or B12 opponents will solve it or increase corporate support will solve it. Turns out apathy is apathy. We are a basketball school thanks to CKS.

We have less international travelers right now so that is the reason.

Not true…

Look how attendance improved in just 1 year under CWF…

And note the crowd size for the Herman/beginning of Applewhite tenures…

Turns out WINNING is the primary driver of attendance at UH football games; but we already knew that…

Most of the attendance increase last year was CU and Tech. And even with those we didn’t hit our 2023 numbers.

We dont sell out every game…That isnt attendance problems, its some of our fans who whine about every thing! Why dont you ask Rice how many people come to their home games. THEY have attendance problems. The Texans would have 20 thousand empty seats at every home game except all the tickets bought by big business and then used as a tax write off… CWF keeps winning, our attendance will be fine…Then the whiners will find something else to complain about…

So opponents do matter…

I know y’all have seen the empty stands at Bama & A&M when they play ULM…

Do you think the Tech game would’ve had the atmosphere it had if Willie hadn’t kicked Prime’s teeth in a few weeks before…?

The thing is, A&M and especially Texas were putting double our stadium capacity in the stands for a lot of the same schools we’re playing now. Kyle and DKR were not empty when Baylor or Oklahoma State came to town. There’s a world of difference between having some empties against ULM and drawing flies against WVU.

I live in Virginia. Neighbors kid is going to Tennessee in the fall. Wants to be part of a “big time school”. The SEC pull is strong.
