OU to B1G?

I’ve read many times that existing SEC members can veto any school from its own state. I can’t see agi saying yes to uta…or UH for that matter.

That may have been true in the past, today if the SEC powers (of which A&M is not one) want to add any Texas school, A&M will not be able to veto it.

There are some posters on this board that believe the B1G wants UT but to get them, they have to add OU and KU to have continuous B1G territory. This is based off B1G expansion history.

S&M would not veto ut.

S&M would not veto ut.

There’s a joke in there somewhere …

I doubt that the B1G “wants” UT.

To be honest, I don’t think that the B1G really “wants” anybody else, except for possibly Notre Dame.

But I do believe that if the B1G ever OFFERED a spot to any school in Texas (and there’s only a small chance of that), it’d be UT, simply because they’re the school/program in Texas that best fits their “profile.”

As I said, I don’t see expansion into TX as something that they “want” very much.

Yes they would. I’ll go double or nothing on my UH student loans saying they would.

They can veto but it wouldn’t count. What conference would give up the money that UT would bring in? That’s a rhetorical question because the answer is none.

So why haven’t they offered Clemson, Florida State, Louisville, Miami or Georgia Tech?

Answer- South Carolina, Florida, Georgia and Kentucky are a big enough voting block to shoot down expansion offers. They all like being the SEC flagship in their state. As does A&M. In the SEC’s current form, it will only take 4 votes to veto expansion.

It all depends if the gentlemen’s agreement from the other singular state schools to veto expansion with another school within an existings schools state would be honored. Up to this point, it always has been honored.

Now the old guard group could disregard an Aggie objection and then they couldn’t hold up any expansion school. But if old guard SC, UK, UF, UGA keep with tradition is not happening. Not even including Piggy and Mizzou who probably would happily veto Texas then they just need one more school.

Maryland is contiguous with what B10 school?

Penn State

For you geography buffs, that would be Pennsylvania - Penn St.

Retiring B1G commissioner Jim Delaney has mentioned expanding as high as 20 schools. If they are really serious about being contiguous, they have real problem with Oklahoma. Small state in population and stature. Academics that are not up to B1G standards and questionable ethics, even the state’s flagship school’s mascot is a cheater.

As for the SEC, taking Houston, OU and OSU would lock up Oklahoma and a good lock down on east Texas. As for A$M allowing UT into the SEC? I don’t think hell has frozen over yet.

Damn, you and law beat me to the answer in Penn State/Pennsylvania.

No, it has not; besides, the whorns think they are much better than anyone in the SEC and want no part of that league!

On the other hand, just think what the SEC COULD do, if they really wanted to. By taking in UH and OU, they could lock all the other conferences out of East Texas, destroy the Little-12, and leave uta standing there with all their “superiority” thoughts looking for a place to go: the PAC, the ACC, the B1G, none of which are contiguous to the state of Texas - or Independence (probable, in this scenario)!

IMHO if the Big 10 expands it will be Missouri and Texas. The SEC would then add Oklahoma to fill Missouri’s spot.

Texas is not going to the SEC. they view the SEC as academically inferior. Missouri has always wanted to go to the Big 10.

Oklahoma fits the SEC profile.

Everyone is putting schools in conferences that they think is a good fit, including myself, but I think everyone is overlooking the obvious.

The previous realignment was mostly about adding schools to be a good fit. The next realignment will be about 3 things, money, money and money. What is the value of this school to my conference?

The Question:
Will a new school pay for itself plus add a few millions to each school in that conference?

So before adding a school to a conference, ask yourself the question.

Yup, this is all about TV sets and Football. Again, the Houston college football tv market is something like No. 2 nationally (something like that, so don’t get all crazy)…and Texas and GagEm claim ownership of our market. But numbers don’t lie, and UH has proven that it’s numbers are terrific as well, so I truly believe that our leadership will get this done for us.
To Ron’s point, probably the PAC makes the most sense (but my dream is the Big, and I suspect RK’s as well)…
