OU to B1G?

Actually, the Houston market for college football is not in the top 25. Somewhere in the 30’s or 40’s

Just seeing if you geography majors where paying attention. Actually thought Maryland was south of Virginia, my bad.

The SEC has a grant of rights into the 2030’s for their third tier rights as part of the agreement with espn for the SEC Network. Mizzou isn’t leaving.

That statement brings to light the lie that the Big12 and the SEC saying that UT and A&M carry the Houston market. What it is really saying is that the viewership in Houston is not interested in watching UT and A&M games and that’s why Houston is not ranked in the top 25 in college football viewership.

Only UH as a P5 can get Houston in the top 25.

I went skiing in New Hampshire one year for Spring Break and some native Houstonian Coogs in my circle of friends were curious if that was in the United States or Canada

How? My own belief that any conference with UT/UH or A&M/UH will own Houston. On its on UH cannot carry as much of the Houston market as UT or A&M carry individually

yeah, it would not surprise me if houston were not in the top 25 college FB tv markets…because texas football is mostly about Dallas Cowboys and high school football…I think college FB is more popular in the north, the midwest, the East…

The lists that are usually released for this usually goes by percentage of market that watches college football. Birmingham, AL usually leads the way followed by Columbus, OH and followed by the markets you’d expect for the blue-bloods.

However, that doesn’t mean that the total number of people in those cities watch more college football than in Houston, just that they have a greater market share in those cities. It’s likely that more people in Houston watch college football than Birmingham’s market just by sheer population stats.

I do wish that we could go back in time to see what ratings and market shares were like back when the SWC existed. I’d imagine Houston fared better at that point in time.

Exactly the reason the local media does NOT want to go back to those type of ratings !!!

What matters is our recent tv ratings. They speak for themselves.

The SWC market share and today’s market share are not really a fair comparison. In the SWC day’s there were 3 major networks, PBS and then UHF channels were in their infancy. Today there are more than 1000 stations to choose from and I would guess the number of kids focused on football has decreased because of all the other entertainment options.

True, still would be nice to see what the ratings were for us during that time.

You have to remember before Georgia and Oklahoma sued the NCAA you were limited as to how many times you could appear on ABC each year (also remember all games were on ABC)

The good old days !!

Most all Coog games were on Saturday night. BB games started at 7:30 or 8 p.m…

And coaches were not multi millionaires !!..no TV $$$$$$

Yup. Would spend Saturdays at the intramural fields behind what was then Hofheinz Pavilion, back to the Quad, maybe over to Moody Towers for dinner and then off to the dome for three hours of other teams trying to figure out how to stop CBY’s Veer offense…

Good times.

If you were on ABC, you were special. It meant something to be on TV back then. And most fans were forced to go to games to see your team play.
