SEC schools are required to have at least one P4 non-conference school on their schedule.
Unlike the Big 10. I thought I would get that dig in.
The UH representation in London would be embarrassing and OU would probably outnumber UH, threefold. Also, how often do you get OU to come to campus?

If it was I do get the pay out but let me ask you this.
How are we going to develop a home following if we are schedulling a so called blue blood outside of our campus?
Example:
We sell out TDECU.
The stadium is rocking
Game is live Nationwide.
For the naysayers arguing we have no following or no passion this would be a great UH advertisement…in America.
If this is going to be the norm going forward then why do we have a new stadium especially with the full BIG12 payout?

I don’t write e on this board often but this would be a short term gain and long term disaster. First off we will be outnumbered as someone mentioned. 2nd - a pissed off season ticket holder base that is already fragile. They do this and you will not see growth in the season ticket base, you will see a bunch walk away.

This is a great point. We do need exposure but is it the best way to get it.
We all want a sold out TDECU. The question is how we get to that.
We play at Wembley stadium thousands of miles away from the greater Houston area…

Now let’s be clear. How many UH ticket holders will sell their tickets to okie fans to recoup their season ticket investments? It is a fair question that the pro London trip will bring up. I will answer it that way. We had uta and teetech at home recently. How did our fans respond? We can all agree it was a great atmosphere. It was an atmosphere that we had not seen since the SWC days.
The question that I will ask again is. Are playing games at nrg and abroad the best way to build a fan following?
I fully understand that operating an athletic program is costly, very costly. Like 99% of FBS DIV I programs we operate in the red. But here is where our unique situation plays a …unique role into this.
We just got back into a power conference. We were in exile since 1996 while others, our BIG12 peers for example were racking up money and solidified their fans support. Now we have a BIG12 full share so why don’t we concentrate on building the most robust home fans attendance possible by making sure we sell out TDECU with…our own fans.
Having 40k fans, making TDECU as loud as an Argentinian soccer stadium is everybody’s dream.
How long are we going to play these games outside TDECU? If it is only about money then it will continue. Should it?

UH needs to play some decent pre conference games at home in hoops and football, if possible. I understand the money aspect, but at the same time I think it is going to hurt our home fanbase to a degree.
Like in hoops, playing Florida State at Toyota Center was a total joke. If you don’t start rewarding season ticket holders, especially those in Houston, with a decent home non conference game you are going to lose some supporters.
And Lord knows we need all the support we can get…
On the dark side, we frankly are not in a position to have anything our way when it comes to playing elite programs.

UH needs to play games exactly like this. It’s a game that will be nationally covered without any other college football competition. It’s a brand building game. It’s the same as the nfl playing in europe, they are building their brand, they are not building fan bases either by having the local team play thousands of miles away.
If you want to build a fanbase, go 10-2 for 5 years and make the playoffs a few times.
