Over under wins

There are coaches that come in and win in year one.

But most, upon arriving at a significant rebuilding period, don’t.

Even Kelvin Sampson had a poor record in year one.

And football requires way more recruits and as such is a lot harder to turn around than basketball.

He’s entitled to the same “freebie” sucky first season that Sampson got…and a year or two worth of progressive, incremental improvement.

I always thought the problem with getting CWF is UH fans won’t have the patience to see him through the rebuild. We shouldn’t be satisfied with a winning season but we should see that as expected progress in year 2

rebuild what?

We play in the NIL era?

You’re living in the past era.

You can flip a roster in one season + bring in a productive recruiting class.

NIL is now about how creative and organized you can be in building a winning program.

The recruit them and keep them 4 years days are over.

Again…the idea that you are going to completely rebuild overnight and have a great team with NIL presumes that you have a big enough NIL honeypot to instantly create an entire team with new, ready to contribute recruits, who can come in and start right away, and even be stars.

That, of course, requires a WHOLE LOT of NIL.

If you haven’t noticed, we don’t have it.

we aren’t talkign about a Championship caliber team in year one or two…only to get to 8 wins in year two.

A new organized disciplined hardworking coach should be worth 3-4 wins. alone, with no roster changes.

Now, you may strategic adds and you can get to 8 wins.

Out AD helped us with a cupcake OoC schedule guaranteeing 3 wins…now find those 5 more wins!

As I illustrated above…I’m not going to put money on more than four conference wins.

I’ll revise my prediction if we beat Colorado in a non-fluke-ish way.

It works both ways. We lost our most highly rated players to the portal. We replaced them with lower level talent, if you look down on G5, you must look down on the takent we brought in.
Our DC was hired away. We didn’t have an offseason of stability. We have a new OC too, thank goodness. Everything points to more growing pains. Just being realistic

I think we can get 4 Big 12 conference wins.

Also think we can go 3-0 in OOC games.

7-5. Plus a Bowl win to finish 8-5.

That would be a successful 2nd season and reasonable expectations for the season . Hope we go undefeated in the OOC

There’s a big difference between us and those programs. They were all established P4 schools prior to their coaching changes. We still haven’t received a full media rights share from the Big 12, yet we’re already being thrust into paying $20m+ in revenue sharing. Completely different situations. I do agree that there’s reasons for optimism, but there’s been nothing presented that should make anyone feel like we have a shoe-in 8+ win team.

The 5.5 wins total is not an even money bet. $25 bet would return about $12.
I think I’ll wait until closer to the season or they make adjustments in the total and odds.

I’d like to bet O 6 1/2 when available.

6+ and Bowl is a big step in the right direction. NIL has changed the game…anyone know what our NIL is looking like ? Tech is in the $40M range…crazy stuff
