From the various Youtube expansion gurus.
IF CW / Prime for new PAC.
PAC is leaning 2 essentially regional conf under The PAC umbrella.
12 teams at least.
Everybody left out West.
UNLV, probably WY, AF
Best of Gulf Coast/ Miss River AAC w many more.
Tulane/ Memphis/ USF and ______
CW HAS to have these for footprint.
Much of it is tied in CW affiliations with regional TV stations.
The ACC is not in trouble unless the 1Aâs leave, UNC and Miami, it still has all sorts of inter league ties ins with the Big10 and Big east that the Big12 does not.
The Pac-2 is just holding onto whatever money they can trying to expand before reality comes calling, wonât work. The future of the PAC and MWC is Group of 5.
I saw a tweet that said that they are both thinking that if the ACC doesnât improve their playoff chances, then they might as well stay on the West Coast.
That would be the best G5 conference. Fresno, Boise, SDSU, and Oregon State have been borderline Top 25 programs the past year or two. In basketball, Warren Nolan and TeamRankings.com rated the MWC 4th in RPI while RealTimeRPI had them 5th. And I read that the âreimaginedâ PAC would get a pretty good TV deal, not P4 good but somewhere between the ACC and what the MWC has been getting, likely in the neighborhood of 10 million. Yeah, I could see Stanford and Cal possibly being a part of it. If they were, then the new PAC wouldnât need to expand, but if the league did add members, I would think UNLV would be the top choice. After the Rebels, you could be looking at Utah State, Air Force, UTSA, or New Mexico. I hope it works out for them. In fact, I wouldnât mind seeing the Big 12 playing the new PAC in the Las Vegas, Holiday, and/or Sun Bowl.
Itâs gonna be too dang funny if Cal and Stanford end up having to hold their academic noses and be in a conference with academic lightweights like Boise State.
Theyâre just trying to create a viable league that can at least challenge the ACC and B12 on the field. Frankly as long as they stay with a relatively small lineup they will have a pretty good thing going. With an 8 school roster of Oregon St, Wazzu, Boise, SDSU, Fresno, CSU, Memphis, and Tulane they would probably have the 5th highest rated champ in most years. That would give each team in the league a pretty realistic shot at having an occasional playoff birth. Then in basketball they would probably be able to compete as a multi-bid league each year. They wonât be as financially successful as the B12/ACC but as long as they can earn enough to clearly distinguish themselves from the G5 leagues itâs not a bad deal.
I have a hard time seeing Cal or Stanford return to what will be G5 status unless theyre hemorrhaging millions of dollars from travel expenses. Sure, the additions of them MWC schools arenât bad in football or basketball, but the ACC is still viewed as a top tier basketball conference nationally. I just donât see it.
Itâs being reported on the internet that the PAC Light commissioner has been quoted as saying that if the Big 12 is âtoo toughâ for Colorado, theyâll happily welcome them back, or something to that effect!
