Places you miss from Houston past

Probably embellished a bit by time, but if I remember correctly, Doug Brooks, UH grad, started his career at the Luther’s referenced above. Essentially walked across the street to work at that first Chil’s. The rest is history….CEO, Chairman, and President of Brinker, parent company of Chili’s and others. A great success story. And a hell of a good flag football player.

Yea but Chilis sucks nowadays. I don’t even remember the last time we ate there. Smaller portions, higher prices. Corporate looking interiors.

It’s a good place to go on Veteran’s Day IF you’re a Vet. Free meal from a decent special menu.

My wife and I go there nearly every year for that.

So basically you’re agreeing with me that its not worth it, unless its free.

I’m saying they’re a better spot on Veteran’s Day than Golden Corral.

Well that’s a high bar.

I say that because those are the two chains that come to mind that always offer free meals for Vets on Veteran’s Day.

There may be others, of course.

I remember that one year on Vet’s Day, Red Robin had a promotion, so I got a free burger at Red Robin for lunch, and then a free meal at Chili’s for dinner.

I went to Golden Corral one year for Veteran’s Day, but I prefer Chili’s to that.

Never copped a free meal on Veteran’s Day.

You missed out!

I wish these places were still around.
Allbritton’s Cafeteria
Guy’s Meat Market
Leo’s Mexican
Otto’s
Roznovskys
Williams BBQ
Shanghai Reds
The Filling Station
Bill Mraz Dancehall
Meyer Speedway

Panjos Pizza, Strawberry Patch. By the way, The Chilis on Richmonds was the second location, first was on Greenville in Dallas, tore it down a few years ago.

Chilis is still good. Wish they had more than one chili like they did back in the day. Blinker was a real innovative guy. His concepts still are going strong…. Exception Macaroni Grill.

Aw. And I was telling my wife about how awesome Romano’s is. In the 90’s Penne Rustica was my go to from 160 lbs to 220 lbs.

Daisy’s was a sandwich place right inside our entrance on Scott St. Old wooden floor, juke box, and beer.

I miss the old Pierce Elevated, before they took out some of the bounce.

You guys don’t remember Chinese Star?

Concur on Allbritton’s and Otto’s.

Isn’t that the bounce that lead to O’Quinn’s death?

I thought that O’Quinn’s accident was on Allen Parkway.
