Plane Crash

I think they need to look at shutting that runway, 33 I believe, down…

Yeah… airport coffers will take a hit but this tragedy could’ve been avoided.

It’s the only runway where the helo and plane flight paths cross.

I live about 5 miles from DCA, its an overly congested nightmare of an airport. I am on an airplane almost every week and I typically fly out of IAD which is 26 miles away just to avoid DCA.

FAA has suspended all helicopter traffic near DCA.

At the end of the day… the helo was out of it’s airspace.

The more I read about the dumber that army mission sounds… night vision training in the only airspace that crosses with planes… WTF!

How did this pilot nit see this plane?

Why aren’t they releasing her name?

Hard to see wearing night vision goggles.

The battalion runs training flights around the area, like the one the downed Black Hawk was on, to give pilots practice navigating the environment, air traffic and planned evacuation routes, Koziol said.

The Army runs the training flights “on a near daily basis,” around the clock, Koziol said. “These are flown every day by multiple aircraft,” he said.

The pilot confirmed they saw it, twice, and requested to maneuver around it… then flew right into it…

And why are they keeping the female soldier’s name from the public…

Normally, when there is a military training death they put their names out and pictures of them everywhere…

Maybe because she wiil used as political weapon and be blamed for the accident before an investion even starts

That video is deceiving, the plane was going 140mph, that’s covering a lot of ground.

At the request of the family it says.

Granted that’s a bit unusual; and will just
fuel the conspiracy crowd.

The pilot acknowledged they saw the plane and would avoid it… twice.

That’s outside of standard pentagon process… why?

As reported by Reuters…

Most likely they were looking at a different plane on that confirmation

They may not have much of a choice if there is that much of a shortage of controllers.

That’s interesting. I had no idea that was the minimum qualifications.

Sadly then you have all the crazies who will come out and harass her family with conspiracies and what not.

I see no benefit to the public by releasing her name. Honor her family’s wishes.

I agree there’s no benefit, but it does seem odd. I don’t ever recall hearing “name not released at the request of the family” before. Maybe it’s happened, but if it was an option I think we’d all be not familiar with it.

I don’t disagree with the decision, just saying it seems highly unusual.

Exactly, that’s been reported before. And as stated above, if flying with night vision goggles on, you have very limited peripheral vision. Literally cant see plane lights that is not directly in front of you.

Agree with you, but that’s the doubled edged sword. And the crazies you speak of
are not just a few.
