@Kyle_Be_Coogin I know you didn’t want to believe that Twitter post over Reuters. Here’s what the Army says
I believe that… still have many other questions but I’ll not speculate anymore…
We all want instant gratification to our questions after something like this. Unfortunately there are no instant answers.
Yup
But you still have to pose the questions…
Pilot has been identified.
And early FB posts attacking her as committing suicide and fact she worked
previously in the WH. Early “likes” of this posting leading. Just disgusting.
Sad for the family. If I was her dad I would have challenged anyone doubting her “competence” considering all of her accomplishments. She was qualified. May she and all of those impacted have peace and rest in peace.
Very sad; for all. I just did another look on FB and the things people are posting and saying about her is very inappropriate imho. And number of people liking these takes is so disturbing.
How did we lose our decency or is this who we have always been ?
One thing social media has become (maybe always has been) a place to dog on others. Worse is these days it seems to actively encourage it. Like when you see posts with a picture that says “describe this person with two words” just inviting people to engage to destroy the person pictured and hate them in general.
I talked to my United Captain buddy. A few things:
This is still way to early to come up to a conclusion. Disclaimer: my buddy knows Reagan airport, flew hellos and C130’s in the Marines. He is a long distance United Captain now.
Facts that we know:
Multiple planes landing means crowded air field.
Air traffic controllers ask the following question:
Do you have contact?
Means do you see the aircraft next to you?
The same question is asked to all aircraft wanting to land. This is valid for all airports.
If the Captain responds with “no” He/she can’t land.
Keep that in mind because the same question would have been asked from the hello/small plane air traffic controller to the blackhawk.
NTSB confirmed last evening that there was indeed an air traffic controller for hellos/small planes and other traffic controllers for planes.
Reagan airport has almost all planes fly in a “formation pattern” They have to to the design of the runways.
Runways:
One plane accepted one runway then accepted another because of traffic.
It means that more than likely runway one was still occupied by an aircraft.
Collision plane went from runway 1 to runway 33.
These runways at Reagan airport are one of the most challenging for all of our airports. You have to land almost right on where the runway starts. John Wayne airport in Santa Ana/Irvine is similar. San Francisco is similar too. Often you will see planes wanting to land but can’t because they do no have a clear view of who is around them.
Going from runway one to 33 meant that the pilot had to greatly change his flight pattern could it be 33 degrees, 43 degree to the left, by all means significant manuveurs.
Keep in mind that the D.C. area has multiple prohibited flying areas.
Military aircraft training flight has to be done in these conditions. They have no choice. You can’t duplicate these conditions if it means to fly. You can duplicate these conditions with simulators. It is done regularly.
Night goggles:
It does hamper your vision especially at this airport with these lights.
The 325 feet collision plane height from the air traffic control tower and the 200 feet helicopter height with a 100 Feet possible “give and take” from the same air traffic control tower is the biggest question mark for me.
My buddy reaffirmed that there is no way the hello’s altimeter was malfunctioning.
We will know in due time.
Fact:
We have a major air traffic controller shortage. We all have to realize that these air traffic tower air traffic controllers operate under extreme stress. If a tower is understaffed there are no excuses for it especially for one of the most challenging airport.
It is a tragedy and everyone affected by this needs our prayers. Same please for the Learjet med flight for this little girl from Tijuana.
I think too much trust is put into these helo pilots hands to allow them to maneuver around planes… they should just have to hover and wait until runway 33 is clear…
There was no maneuvering here… just a straight line into that plane killing 64 civilians… the people the military are supposed to protect.
I feel very bad that the soldiers lost their lives as well…
But I feel like the Army has liability here to the civilians.
The latest video from cnn is more than troubling.
Nvm
What does nvm means? Can you watch it?
I can see it, nothing is new about it
I had not seen this footage showing a direct path toward the airplane without any manuveuring changes or attempts. The cnn’s guest commentary is chilling. Any which way you put it it is tragic.
It is critical to know what the hello/small planes air traffic controller said to the hello’s pilot. Hopefully this will help explaining this tragedy. These hellos missions are on stand by right now but they have to resume for training purposes.
What is being implied? That it was intentional?
If so, I will have a hard time believing that.
So the expert agrees there is something very wrong with that flight path and lack of evasive maneuvering…
Watch that video and look at the flight path… something is very wrong here…
If it was mechanical failure why would they have requested to maneuver around it twice…?
