Playoff chances

While tonight’s game was heartbreaking. I think there’s a chance, if the Coogs win out, they still make the playoffs.

When the new poll comes out, UH will still be around 15-19, with lots of football still to be played.

Both losses were on the road against ranked teams.

We’re out of the running for an at large berth and we’re gonna need a lot of help to make the title game.

Tech has to face a ranked Arizona team and OSU team away. Anything can happen. Our team has to win the rest.

Allstate Playoff Predictor says otherwise. We’re a bubble team if we win out.

If we win out, I will be thrilled regardless of whether we make the CCG or CFP. Just a few years ago, most of us would be happy to be where we are now. We are still building and we still have a great coach with as good a staff as he can afford. I think we will eventually get there if we stick by CWF.

Whether “there” includes a national championship may be a lot to ask for a team with our budget. As much as I like our players, let’s be real; as a whole, we don’t have the players a Georgia, Bama, Ohio State, etc. has with their $40-$55 million payroll. Our coaches are getting all we can out of the players we can get.

Still have to travel to CU and WVU. We’ll probably lose one of those.

Guys, that doesn’t matter. You’re in the Big 12.

in terms of the playoff chances, it’s now WIN the CCG game or bust. 10-3 is not gonna cut it, it’s just not. Don’t shoot the messenger.

It was always was gonna end that way for us. I love the enthusiasm for our lifeblood conference, but it’s getting harder and harder to play along.

You didnt get total legitimacy when you joined us… you got an opportunity to join the rest of us misfits clinging to the last leaf on a flimsy branch, hoping the winds of fate take pitty on our collective woe and spare us from our most logical fate.

With BYU losing and only 1 undefeated team now… we lost a lot of the “well maaaaaybe we can give them 2” goodwill we suddenly had. And that was only conditional on their real shiney toys being so lacking in a one-off down year that they mismanaged themselves w/ greed. We’re lucky to have 1 bid at all.

In football terms, they think we’re the AAC or MWC. Heck, even the team who won last night thinks that. Their fans say it every day.

You can still make the CCG, and you can still win it. That was a good game. You had an injured QB and a tough 2nd half. They did a lot of good things still, just a few plays short is all!

You want to know why folks didn’t rate our basketball team for the longest after Phi Slama Jama?
Because we couldn’t consistently put in winning seasons (.500 if the won the lottery) and tournament wins. ((Damn, there were some dark times at Hoffheinz towards the end))

You want to know why our basketball team is NOW always in the conversation ? (albeit not as much as we probably should), because we’ve been pulling off consistent 30 win seasons, championship games, tournament appearances wins.

CFP or any bastardized post season version we end up with in a couple of years is going to be dependent on us winning the conference outright until we are posting, consistently, 10 win seasons.

I love where the heads are and fan expectations, but come on.

Not with expansion to 24 teams…

We’d still be in the mix right now with 2 losses…

Getting rid of Armstrong will improve our playoff chances. The reviews were legit. Seems in over his head.

Last night during the game ESPN put up a graphic saying our chances off getting in the CFP. If we had won last night game we would have had a 68% chance but since we lost we have like a 23% chance.

Defense is not the reason we lost yesterday.

Why would you write that?

No, there very clearly isn’t.
The Tech loss looks less impressive and nobody cares about beating Oregon State.

The Coogs had their shot and blew it.

The CFP would rather have any 3 loss SEC than a two loss UH whose best win is Oregon State.

Our best win is Okie State…

Oklahoma St. and UCF were impressive UH wins. They fueled the optimism going into Utah.

I kept thinking during the BYU vs UCF game that I’m glad UH has already beaten this team.

The playoffs are tough to get into period. I never thought we were a bona fide playoff team this year but as the season went by I started thinking otherwise. Before last night I thought we could eek in with a win-out. This ain’t conference USA or the American. This is a conference where everyone loses a game or two. We had the odds against us this year.

The key in the B12 is to be top 20 before the season, lose early on the road if you have to lose, then put the hammer down and compete for the CCG. If you’re in contention for the cCG with two games to go you have a shot at the playoffs. Either by design or by SOS.
