POLL: Favorite UH Logo

They shouldn’t use a Texas logo then? They’re regional even though they have Texas in their name. May an outline of just a portion of the state :grinning:

Yet OSU is THE University OF Ohio

Sorry…you walked right into that one

the difference is we do NOT have Texas in our name nor do we have ANY connection to the State creating our University nor adequately funding us.

We’ve heard ‘NO’ from Austin many more times than ‘YES’

WE aren’t their priority…the PUF tells us that, despite what LAW thinks

Again why the logo last night? Answer that well and the argument is over.
I trust our coaches over you.

that’s the point of this thread…we should embrace what we are, a Proud City School, instead of a State that has turned its back on us for almost 100 years now.

We are pointing out it is inconsistent

So our coaches are wrong

yes…they don’t understand our struggles with the state

I disagree with our coaches. I think that’s ok.

I remember one time we had a flood and the Law building flooded and we had to go “hat in hand” to the capitol in Austin and beg them for money to make renovations to our flooded building.

That’s how little they thought of us until only recently…like the last 5 years

No one said we were a bigger sports brand than UT or aTm…or even Tech.

In fact, we said from the beginning that the opposite was true. Our attendance bears that out.

The gist of the argument here was your statement that the State of Texas has nothing to do with the University of Houston, or at least, asking a question as if to presume that that was the case.

I’ve simply stated that the State of Texas has A LOT to do with the University of Houston based upon the FACTS that a) we are a BIG STATE university, and NOT a city one; haven’t been a city school since 1945, b) we get the bulk of our funding and at least half of our endowment directly from the STATE of Texas, NOT from the City of Houston c) the elected Governor of the STATE of Texas appoints ALL of our Regents, not the Mayor of Houston, d) we are a STATE of Texas executive branch agency, and not a city of Houston one, and e) many of our traditions (TX flag run at the game, Frontier Fiesta, and the Frontiersmen) all have TEXAS themes, not Houston ones.

So to ask the question that you did…as if to say that the State of Texas has little or nothing to do with the University of Houston…in the face of all those FACTS to the contrary…is DUMB.

All of that…is INDEPENDENT of whether UT, aTm, or Tech are bigger sports brands.

You can be a BIG STATE university, and still not be a particularly large sports brand, much less the biggest in the state. See UNT, for example. AND UH.

But I can tell you straight up that every coach we has HOPES that the team that he fields will be the best in the STATE of Texas, and represent not only the City of Houston, but the ENTIRE State of Texas as the best our state has to offer in that sport.

so why are you continuing to argue WE REPRESENT THE ENTIRE STATE OF TEXAS

You have no clue what you are even arguing

Duh…we are a public school that receives state funds…that’s not the argument.

how did your trust in Herman turn out?

Or Sumlin

Or Briles

Or Dana

Glad you trust coaches

In my lifetime, Xavier has had a lot more success. I’ve only been around for Cincy to make the E8 like one time.

I didn’t argue that we represent the entire state of Texas exclusively. In fact, I already disputed that. UT, aTm, and many other schools would take issue with that.

Likewise, I dispute that we exclusively represent the City of Houston. Several schools here would take issue with that, in all likelihood.

Is your reading comprehension poor or something? It must be, because I’ve already said that above. Sorry if you couldn’t read it. Or maybe you were too lazy to read it? I’ll let you say which.

But I do believe that OUR COACHES hope that their teams will be the best, not only in the City, but in the State, and be recognized as the best that the State has to offer in those sports. I do believe that that is their desire, hence their use of the state in their coaching gear.

Sorry if you aren’t bright enough to understand that nuanced distinction.

YES YOU DID…lol

You said our Frontiesmen fly the TEXAS flag because we represent all of TEXAS over the City

we are saying we represent the City first

We even gave you slogan examples

Sampson has done more for the school than you ever will.

so did Herman

Blue has nothing to do with the university…

Obviously they think we represent the state of Texas more so than the City of Houston, otherwise, they’d be running the City of Houston flag across the field and not the Texas flag.

And apparently, the school is on board with that too…otherwise, they wouldn’t permit, endorse, and encourage that very activity…as they have for DECADES now.

That’s a bit different than what I may personally think.

And in any event, that’s simply to show how much our school has to do with the State of Texas, CONTRARY to what you claimed; if it had more to do with the City than the State…we’d be running the City of Houston flag across the field, right?

As for funding, we never got as much as UT or aTm, and likely never will.

But at what point during YOUR lifetime did we get more from the City of Houston than the STATE of Texas?

Hint: NEVER.

Nice try!

That means that we have A LOT MORE to do with the State of Texas than the City of Houston.

we do run onto the field with the City of Houston flag when we run out of the tunnel…the actual football team…not the Student Organization
