Portal opens April 7th

And literally everyone has an agent now.

He officially has until May 28 to withdraw from the NBA draft and stay in college. But that’s probably not even set in stone.

Declaring really just means he’s going through the draft process to see where it goes. It has no bearing on returning.

I think this status for players isnt clear at all anymore after all the players coming back this season from drafted status

But people were saying that UH would be one of the biggest spenders this portal season? That the NIL budget was significantly larger?

Just got the news about Cenac. Most expected this. My only shock is Flemings hasn’t declared yet (that I know of.)

@Kyle_Be_Coogin Cenac is gone.

The NIL Cenac wants. We cant just set that aside for him ($3M - 4M)

We’ll need to spend it

None of us know… we can kick thoughts around but only time will tell…

I think we have NIL for him but it’s probably better for his pro career to make that same amount of $ next year while getting his pro career started now.

Why do we call it NIL at this point?

@Kyle_Be_Coogin the reported number Cenac wants to return to college is +$4M or more

If he does turn pro, and you were hoping he returned. You have $4M to spend on whos left in the portal? Big men are gone, maybe some wings available to sign. Risky

I would lock-down my frontcourt now.

clearly rumors of Tillman opening up the checkbook for Kelvin are not accurate. If that were the case locking up Cenac at $4Mish (about the same $ as his draft slot) and telling him he should move into top half of first round and make a lot more $ getting drafted next year should have been something Kelvin and Tillman could sell.

Guess we will we doing value and development shopping beyond 2-3 guys we are targeting as minutes guys.

In my perfect opinion . For the effort and development we can expect from Cenac next season, I would rather look at other options.

Perhaps, his thought process last season was to do just enough to get drafted in the 1st round. I’m sure he hoped for a higher draft position, but he strikes me as being satisfied where he is. If he returned, I don’t think we could expect much more from him.

I’m glad Cenac made his decision and not just going through the process. Everyone gets to move forward. Look forward to more Coogs in the pros.

I’ve been saying the same thing… can’t wait…

the bad news is the $ isn’t there for him to come back (if he was willing), the good news is this hasn’t dragged on for us and we can reprioritize our NIL funds immediately. Flemings will offically declare today or tomorrow too is my guess.

The podcast guy said Burton is probably $2.5-$3 million…

Just because you don’t believe it doesn’t make it true…

We are spending more money than ever before on NIL is the rumor

I don’t think the two are related. I think cenac wants to test the NBA draft and Sampson just supports him.

Someone on the Kent State board said 1.2.

I don’t know how accurate those reports are but we spend probably more on 3 freshman this past year than any 3 players on next season roster.

The podcast guy (again… for what it’s worth) that covers ND said he was expected to get $1.5 @ ND & he believes the Houston deal is between $2.5-3…

Well, if they are willing to spend that money, why not just go get Flory Bidunga?
