It sounds like the NCAA is going to advance the “5 for 5” rule but that it would not be retroactive (i.e., 4-year seniors who exhausted their eligibility this year under current rules would not be able to come back).

This still isn’t “final” - just moving forward.

So no Uzan, but we may have Jojo, Dedan, Gillespie, and Hadnot for an additional season, if there’s mutual interest of course. Wonder how this will impact Alston’s decision. Also, Diane is expected to start in his sophomore year. If Jojo stays a 5th year that may impact Diane.

Lots of interesting consequences from this decision.

Players who have a strong NBA opportunity aren’t staying for a 5th year. 5th year is for guys who are fringe late second round and/or not on any draft boards. With that being said, Jojo won’t be here for a 5th year imo

There are couple of other changes worth noting that were approved by the Division I Board of Directors, related to transferring and tampering, that will be voted on in June.

Each of these issues have court cases working through the legal system.

I like the 5 year max rule, with the included exceptions. I think there should also be a max of 1 free transfer. After that, you have to sit for a year (unpaid?) which cuts into that time. Might promote kids staying in one place more and prevent the teams who are are buying new rosters yearly

I don’t like it at all.

As a former college athlete i believe you play your four years and get the heck out of dodge.
Make room for the next wave year after year.

Nothing wrong with a redshirt year but that’s it….5 to play four and then move along.

23-24 year olds have no business in the NCAA.

Hopefully, not because that means his offensive game stepped way up…

How do you feel about 23-24 year old former LDS missionaries playing for BYU?

I dig ‘em!

David Rose was on the PSJ teams, and was a Captain of one of them, I think, and he was 24 or 25 at the time as I recall. Former LDS missionary.

This is what the rule should be. 5 to play 4

I would 100% make exceptions for religious based students that go on missionaries.

No problem with that Uncleju….that makes exceptions for redshirts which are 100% fine.

I want the transfer rule locked in. 1 free transfer. All these kids going to 4 schools in 4 years is pitiful

I agree but I think the genie is out of the bottle on that one.

Well the coaches should not be allowed to jump as easily either, definitely should be no coaching changes till after national championship game

1 free transfer after that you sit for a year. With exception if your head coach gets canned/moves jobs. I think that’s the only way something like that would ever get passed

Any player should be able to transfer if their coach leaves

Just like Tashawn Thomas & Danuel House when CKS came here

How bout coaches have to sit out a year if they want to transfer

I agree but coaches aren’t going to 4 schools in 4 years. That issue is much smaller in comparison
