Not saying this is written in stone, but if the Knicks don’t accommodate their first round pick just as much or instead of having a point exclude him from the offense then maybe the Knicks are not for him. Kansas didn’t take advantage of him. Lessons to learn.
And by the way, tired of this Kansas transfer tag, as if he’s the first NBA player to enter the league after transferring during college from any team. It just seems even a bit of a slight at UH. How about just UH product. Oh no oh no he had to step down and attend that “other” school. All that “adversity”, so devastating.
theres no one else thats a point on their roster… similar with dallas, hinton is playing the role of PG for dallas becuase theres no other pg on roster… a lot of this summer league teams arent made with the idea of making a complete roster but simply testing out different players
grimes shines when theres a dejon (or jalen preston with combine) who regularly swing the ball to him for inrythm catch and shoot 3s on clean looks…almost all of his shots are forced 3s or off the dribble 3s, while he can make them his percentages wont look good if thats all he is taking…
but not to put it all on quickley, this points out a big flaw and development area in grimes game…grimes isnt always going to get a great pg… he isnt always going to feed great looks at the 3…an NBA pro will still shine regardless… off the dribble 3s shouldnt be his only offense when he has no pg. not counting fastbreaks i dont think grimes has attempted to drive once in all 3 summer league games
him and dejon are opposites, dejon had to figure out the 3, grimes has to figure out the drive
“- Quentin Grimes (8 points, 3-9 shooting) is quickly retreating into McBride’s shadow, but I thought he was excellent on defense and on the boards (9 rebounds). He was solid.”
100% but also nobody analyzes defense in SL. It’s basically who’s getting buckets which tends to be ball dominate guards. Grimes has to get better off the dribble no doubt.
McBride would of been nice at #24 for the Rockets but I see why they chose Christopher. His height & athleticism. His defense has been a nice revelation also.
“- Quentin Grimes was quite good Friday night, putting up a line of 15 points on 6-10 shooting, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks to go along with his usual solid defense. He actually attacked the basket on a few occasions, which was nice to see. The kid’s gonna be alright. As P&T’er charluca noted, Obi and Grimes were pretty much the main attractions on Friday.”
"Grimes was selected 25th in this year’s draft.
“I started to be more aggressive,” said Grimes, who didn’t reach double figures in his first three games. “I’m starting to feel more comfortable out there with the team and the new guys. Just feeling more comfortable.’’
Grimes had been relatively quiet, though he doesn’t get a lot of passes from Quickley.
“I told Quentin to be Quentin,’’ Yoshimoto said. “If he’s open, shoot it and not move it. Don’t overthink. Just shoot and let it fly. He showed it today and made shots.’’ "
