Quentin Grimes

Fyi… Dennis stepped down last month from his GM role of Jazz into advisory role directly to the Owner

Did not know that. Haven’t talked to him since the Cougar game. Thanks for the info

Butch, you introduced me to Dennis Lindsey at a game at Hofheinz when you were giving him the UH pitch. Turns out you were a better sports writer than recruiter.:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

In addition to Q’s talents… I wonder how much Damyean Dotson’s success as a Knick played into them picking Q. Knowing they both went through the CKS coaching crucible.

They let Dotson go to Cleveland.

Yeah… After playing there for years and even starting for awhile.

Don’t remember him ever starting on bad Knicks team. But doesn’t matter. I don’t want to come across at being in any way negative towards Dot. He was big part of Coogs basketball turning the corner to much success.

Edit: yes he did start 40 gms in 18/19 bc of injuries. Played 3 yrs w Knicks

" Although he doesn’t love the 3-and-D label, it’s an accurate archetype for Grimes right now. He can knock down threes and play strong, team-oriented defense.

If he can do that, the Knicks will consider this pick a smashing success. If he can add to his game with more playmaking and self-creation, he could be even better than anyone expects.

“Thibs guy” is an overused trope at this point, but if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it’s a duck. Grimes fits the mold of a Tom Thibodeau player and he’s willing to embrace that hard-nosed coaching style."

" New York Knicks — Quentin Grimes fit grade: A-

It’s hard to find an NBA team where Quentin Grimes wouldn’t fit. On a Tom Thibodeau team, it makes a ton of sense.

The words frequently brought up in Quentin Grimes profiles are “hustle” and “gritty.” He’s a strong-bodied player who has the potential to guard multiple positions at the next level.

The Knicks’ biggest need are players who can create offense – ball-handlers who can find their own shot. There might be room for Grimes to continue to grow into an all-around scorer, however, he’s more of a spot-up shooter at this point and doesn’t get to the rim very much.

However, even though the Knicks were 4th in the NBA in 3-point percentage last season, they may have to replace a few sharpshooters who have become free agents: Reggie Bullock and Alec Burks.

That’s where adding Quentin Grimes becomes really valuable. Grimes shot 40.3% from 3 on over 8 attempts per game last season. It’s easy to see the 21-year-old earning a role in just his rookie year. New York doesn’t have anyone on their roster equipped to defend high-level guards, and if Quentin Grimes can do that, it’s a huge addition to their team defense.

We still don’t know what New York will do in free agency. It seems likely that they will add more talent along the perimeter to address the shot creation issues from last season.

Quentin Grimes gives them someone who can be valuable on both ends of the floor. His shooting alone will get him in the lineup, and he could become a key part of Tom Thibodeau’s rotation for years"

Quentin Grimes: B+

When he goes off, which is better?
Grimesanity
Quensanity

Gettin’ Grimey!

That tore me up!

The adversity that Q had to overcome was getting the f out of the Bill Self most overhyped coach **** show.

That was the end of adversity. After that it was all about being a player of talent, work and integrity just like the UH coach, can’t remember his name. From that point on it was all uphill/downhill depending on which Coogsfan semantics policeman is on the site.

" SG Quentin Grimes: The first-round pick out of the University of Houston is coming off a Final Four appearance, showing he’s a winner. He’s a two-way force who can become a very strong value pick."

" The Debut of Quentin Grimes

The Knicks entered the draft with picks 19 and 21 but turned that into the 25th pick plus two future draft choices (a heavily protected Charlotte first-rounder that may never be conveyed and a 2024 second-rounder).

The good news is the Knicks think Grimes was worthy of the 19th slot. Most scouts viewed Grimes as an early second-rounder until he looked terrific at the combine in Chicago. That turned the Knicks’ heads – along with a splendid private workout in Tarrytown. The former Kansas transfer led the University of Houston to its Final Four since 1984 with his defense and 3-point shotmaking."

Lord Q has a burner lol

" Houston Cougars head coach Kelvin Sampson has noticed Grimes struggling to adjust to the lesser role and to a point guard who isn’t exactly Chris Paul.

“Quentin has to learn he’s not the lead dog,’’ Sampson told The Post after viewing both contests. “It’s an adjustment for all these guys. The way you play in college, eventually you’ll get to that. Quickley is a shoot-first, shoot-second, shoot-third point guard. Toppin, you can tell there’s an interest in getting those two guys going. I can tell Quentin was nervous his first game too. Quentin will operate a lot better when you run stuff for him and let him make plays out of that.” "

“This is more a move to bolster the depth chart with a legitimate NBA wing, in case Quentin Grimes is not yet ready for prime time or there’s an injury at the 2 or the 3.”
