Very far away from being a major contributing factor. Think Early Chris Harris or Breon Brady. Great size and potential but he’s very early in his development
He’s a large human being. I’ve seen him take one shot this year and it was a baby hook that rocketed off the backboard. I wouldn’t expect much this year but I’ll be excited to see what the staff can turn him into seeing how our other bigs have panned out.
I think they said he only started playing basketball a few years ago? If he can develop over the next year or two, he could be huge for us. Guy is massive.
I can see some potential, but mainly as a rebounder, shot blocker and posterizing dunk master. Very much like Chris Harris. Also like early Chris Harris, he looks completely lost when he gets on the floor, which is why he only comes in late with Ryan Elvin. He made a 1st half appearance last night because all our bigs were in foul trouble.
I think it will be interesting to see if he sticks around after this year. J’Wan, Ja’Vier and Tugler are already way ahead of him and CKS has had a lot of great things to say about McFarland. Throw in our small ball fours (Ramon and Terrance), and that’s a very crowded front court to contend with for playing time.
I do not see Lath ever being a major contributor. He just has too far to go skill wise. His role will be to spell the starters and provide defense and rebounds. His offense will consist of setting picks, offense rebounds and dunks. He needs to understand spacing, to open up the floor for others.
CKS and staff have done wonders in the development of Chris Harris Jr., J’wan Roberts, and Javier Francis and it looks like Lath is next in line.
I don’t know. But I’ve read on this forum (correct me if I’m mixing things up)… some folks speculating it was to increase the odds of convincing Dedan Thomas (unlv) - Lath’s buddy - to sign with UH.
So already mentioned there was the Dedan connection. But also Sampson’s teams are so culture dependent, that it really helps to have a guy in the system for as long as possible. He helps become an extra coach.
