I love this entrance. It has personality, swagger, use of school color, and totally the City of Houston. It appeals to today’s athete.

I don’t think the SMU pony is anywhere near as cool as Tech’s horse.
That’s fair, but the SMU kid’s pony doesn’t belong on any kind of “cool entrance” list unless it’s for a 5 year-old’s birthday party.

YES!!! UH should embrace the city’s culture with the inclusion of chrome, silver, or gray in the uniforms. It could be a tribute to the CITY. That’s how to build a BRAND! Get rid of the navy blue trim from athletic department school colors totally!
Just me, but there is nothing cool about a trained eagle, or someone playing Halloween in a Zorro costume.

One thing that the slab does is that it very much sets us apart aesthetically from the other Texas schools. In a world where UT and A&M and Texas Tech are all leaning into the Texas old west aesthetic to various degrees, it’s valuable from a branding perspective to be doing something that is very much Not That. It’s part of why I keep pounding the table for us to emphasize Houston, not Texas, in our branding. (UT has also kind of gone more urban in recent years, but they’ve got a cow on the field and they need to try to cover the entire state in a way that we don’t and really can’t.)
Putting it in baseball terms, going to games at DKR and Kyle feels like going to Wrigley or Fenway. You’re watching The Platonic Ideal of the game, as it was a century ago (plus or minus some creature comforts.) We cannot be that. People will not come here for that. We instead need to be the White Sox. Pinwheels, fireworks, sideshows, all kinds of showmanship, even if it gets downright tacky at times. It doesn’t matter that we’re pushing 100 years old, we will always be the new kids in town, and we need to play our part in that role.
(The Sox have as many World Series titles as the Cubs do, btw.)
As far as I know, this happened at least a decade ago, with the exception of the PSJ throwback jerseys in basketball. I’m not aware of anywhere else that it appears.

They should change the song to “Still Tippin” for this entrance.
I liked the slab entrance, it is brilliant, we are not going to increase our attendance by begging or shaming fellow coogs into going, we increase attendance with FOMO, people will show up if they thing they are missing something if they don’t. Also the shoeless, yet fully dressed streaker was brilliant as well.

I don’t think the entrance will bring more people to the games. That’s a Houston culture thing that has to be addressed within the campus and fanbase. This entrance is just a unique Houston thing.
