Just got a note from Stephen Hancock’s (aka SamHouston1) sister to inform me that he passed away last July.
He had tough medical conditions and informed a group of us in private messages about a year ago that his blood pressure went down extremely low (but then stabilized) among other things but he also said he expected to recover.
I knew something was wrong when we never heard anything from him for quite a while. He was a dedicated teacher who cared about his students along with the quality of education and social justice. He was also a great Cougar with strong opinions but also given with respect and an understanding of opposing views. He was often seen at the old coogfan tailgates, signing day gatherings and other UH events. He will be missed. May he rest in peace and his memory be a blessing. Sincerest condolences to the Hancock family
Heights and Sam were two of my all time favorite posters. He did a great
job on staying on top of coog football and recruiting. Really sad. Think he was only
retired from teaching for about a year. Rest in peace Mr Hancock , you are sincerely missed.
This is a hard loss. He and I kept up correspondence since I first joined the board, and I saved his messages. We had respectful disagreements, but I always appreciated his input, particularly with education and recommended reading. We talked about getting together one day, but it never came to pass. I suspect his medical condition was the real reason. RIP.
