I go back a long time as a fan of our school. Danny Davis was the QB when I first discovered UH.
I don’t remember a road environment as militant and tough as last night. Maybe you do. There have been similar. There have been nastier. But in composite that is the loudest (had to turn my TV down) and most intense for 60 minutes that I recall.
If you think there was a tougher one why do you think so? This is not meant to be provocative. I’m curious. I wonder if Willie could offer up a louder/tougher venue that he has coached in.
Probably so but I doubt Georgia fans were even remotely as fired up and energized as what I saw last night. For Georgia Southern. But that would be comensurate.
I don’t like Utah. I was a proponent of bringing them into the conference because of what we saw last night. It is a rugged place to play a big game. I respect them for that one thing alone.
The Utah fan support last night was simply amazing. The black t-shirted crowd visually transformed the entire stadium into a sea of black with few exceptions.
The long pole flag waiving and the 3rd down jump signs/routine to stir up the crowd was masterfully coordinated.
It was reminiscent of European soccer matches where the fans were highly enthusiastic.
The Ute fans really know how to have fun on game day/night.
It’s easy to obsess over what we did wrong but sometimes you just have to tip your cap to the other team. Crowd was electric. That was easily the best defense we’ve faced. They won in trenches. Their D-Line kicked our studded O-Lines butt all night.
Bye comes at a good time for us. We need to regroup and find a way to get to 10 wins. Don’t care what anyone says, there’s still a lot to play for. Have to keep building this program up. Last night won’t be the last opportunity we have to play on the big stage under Fritz.
At some point, we need to win these type of games. Also, that’s what I mean when I say that UH crowds, even OK state, are very casual. Because a lot of our fans just come to watch. Not to participate.
This is a UH sports thing. Not just football. Overmyer getting hurt and being out for the whole game is akin to Shead messing up his leg against Duke or the track team losing the title because the hurdler had bad luck etc. etc. It’s losing the CUSA championship in 2011 when the sugar bowl was on tap. It’s losing to Florida in the title game in basketball. It’s UH sports. Last night’s game could have bumped them into the top ten and opened other possibilities. It’s UH sports.
