Ukraine :ukraine: on offense! Don’t think Ruskies thought this thoroughly through.

From (inside) Russia Without much Love :grinning:

KYIV, Aug 11 (Reuters) - President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Ukraine had launched an incursion into Russian territory to “restore justice” and pressure Moscow’s forces, in his first acknowledgement of Kyiv’s surprise offensive into the western Kursk region.

Moscow’s forces on Sunday were in their sixth day of intense battle against Kyiv’s largest incursion into Russian territory since the start of the war, which left southwestern parts of Russia vulnerable before reinforcement started arriving.

Ukrainians Turned a Toyota Mirai Into a Hydrogen Bomb to Use Against Russia (msn.com)

The return of the Flying Tigers…

US Senator proposes inviting American F-16 pilots to fight on Ukraine’s side (msn.com)

“The hydrogen-powered Mirai drives by feeding H2 from a high-pressure tank into a fuel cell, where it generates electricity to power the car’s electric motors. The tank weighs about 115 lbs, and stores just over 12 lbs of hydrogen at 10,000 psi. That’s equivalent to the pressure of being 22,500 feet underwater. It has to be that sturdy because the hydrogen inside has an enormous potential energy of 33.6 Wh/kg, or about 677.6 megajoules for the whole tank. That’s equal to about 357 lbs of TNT. Combine that with an unreported amount of plastic explosives to pierce the tank (seemingly hundreds of pounds), and the Ukrainians made themselves one hell of a budget bunker buster.”

Damn.

51 was right about hydrogen being the future.

Hydrogen is the future. They are finding Hydrogen fields all over the planet. The good news is the Hydrogen appears to be there.

But there is a lot of engineering still to be figured out.

I haven’t seen much in the news about it
since February of this year. What else new
are you seeing ?

Also, in regards to the France discovery, what are the timeline estimates of potential
mining of this resource? 5 years out ? 10 years out ??? Your guesstimate?

They have found hydrogen in Canada (Quebec), Australia, Albania, France, the United States. They are going to find it is every where.

BUT and it is a big BUT there is still a crap ton of engineering to be figured out to commercialization. Much of it centered around embrittlement because hydrogen permeates steel and makes it brittle. It also embrittles iron, nickel, titanium. Copper and aluminum hold up pretty well. The Aussies are said to have made a breakthrough on embrittlement, who knows we will see.

People in the know say it could be commercial within years not decades. Again we will see.

I suspect when it is commercially available it will be for industrial use and for large transportation (ships and trucks). From there it will “eventually” become available for individual transportation. But making a huge dent in greenhouse gasses from industrial and industrial transportation will be huge.

But we are not there yet. Fingers are crossed.

There has to be a cheaper way to get a bomb than buying one that comes with a car

This is probably not going to feature in any upcoming Toyota commercials

One would think. But not sure there is a cooler way.

Everyone understands that an internal combustion engine needs something to combust. Hence the name.

Hydrogen combusts very well without all the side effects.

Now if you load up any vehicle with combustants, it becomes a rolly polly blowuppy vehicle.

You can buy a Toyota Mirai dirt cheap on the used market. They have not been a hit and have almost zero infrastructure (I have a station by my house, but I’m not sure I could even get to Vegas in one). Under $10000. That’s a pretty cheap bomb.
