Sam Houston @ Houston

You do realise the schedule has been complete trash the last several years right?

A few years ago the team one quite a few games but did not even sniff the outer layer of the bubble because the RPI was horrible.

Easy wins don’t many a damn thing in regards to making regionals.

I may have read the poster’s post wrong n read it twice but it seemed he was just saying he still hopes the Baseball Coogs have a good year n then let the proper Admin execs make decisions from there.
Im certainly in that circle where i want them to be as successful this yr as possible n then i don’t worry abt the rest.
It seems a few on here want them to lose n there still is no guarantee what the future is after that. New or existing Coach… nothing may change as far as greater success. Jmo.

I haven’t kept up with the schedule but the B12 is a good baseball conference. If they finish in the top of the B12 will the season be a success? I know they were picked preseason at the bottom.

I believe I said before, if we make the tourney (and that will be NO easy task in the Big 12), then regardless of whatever beef we may have with Whiting, he ain’t getting fired.

But if he doesn’t…then yeah, that’ll be a drought back to 2018, and that should get him fired.

I’m fine with the non-conf. schedule being somewhat easy, given that the conference schedule is no joke.

But CONSIDER THIS…

I read on some social media that this the first time UH baseball has opened the season with series wins over two “power” conference opponents since 2015.

Not saying Minnesota and Cal are the best power conference teams by any means, but that still seems to be a step in the right direction.

I’ll wait until much later in the season to have a big enough body of work to pass judgment on this year’s team.

The out of conference schedule can’t be horrible because it keeps you from getting into the tournament. You have to win 70% of your games in the conference season.

The poster said he wanted them to win, but more importantly, he said he doesn’t understand what TW has done to have such negativity around the program. TW has shown us his hand over a number of years. He has shown what he can/can’t do. We should have moved on at least two years ago. Don’t blow this chance now!

Got it Baller. Yes, i know where you & pollard stand…no need for repeats.
I gotta drive now, check in w yall later.

I got that.

But winning 70% of our our 30 conference games would give us 21 wins.

Add that to our current five wins, that gives us 26.

Let’s say we win all 9 of our upcoming “softie” games. That’s 35 wins.

And we still could get to 40 wins in the regular season with more matchups against Rice, Sam, Lamar, McNeese, atm-cc, etc; we could even beat aTm at home in May.

Add a couple of wins in the Big 12 tourney, and I am guessing that we’d have 40+ wins and a good enough resume to at least compete for an at large bid, right?

If I’m wrong, then let me know why.

Hey listen, I am perhaps being too optimistic, but I won’t write us off until we play more games.

Cal with Pitt at 3d or 4th from bottom of pre season
ACC polls ahead of BC & ND.

2 of 3 bout right for UH.
Minn clobbering to open the season sucked
but 2 of 3 bout right.

All this will start working itself out Mid March v TT.

Forget 2 mention the UH v SAM play by play

Maybe the women’s basketball team gets an NCAA bid and wins a national title. Do we extend the contract and build a statue. I guess we can fantasize.
That said I love when the Coogs win in any sport but it is obvious we have needed changes in baseball, softball, soccer, and women’s hoops for a long time.
I think Whitting gave up on recruiting years ago.
I would love for baseball to make a run but I just don’t think it is going to happen.

I was curious so I looked him up. His name is Sam Lee, and he is a true freshman out of Lake Creek HS. He was 1st Team All District in baseball (centerfielder) and football (WR), so he was a terrific HS athlete.

He originally signed with Arkansas…IDK if he went through fall ball there or not. Perfect Game had him rated as the 13th OF in Texas last year, so somebody was impressed with him.

Baseball is just so much fun. But watching your school labor in futility in the 150% humidity year after year takes some of the magic out of it.

Yah, he definitely has talent. Only guess is he was struggling with the lights, wind, or maybe both. Even could have been freshman jitters. The ball he dove for was just a bad play and maybe he was just trying to make up for the earlier mistakes. Hopefully he gets things turned around.
