Shaka to Marquette

Good for Shaka, he was This Close to the boosters running him out

I would love to see candidates turning down the gig. Although the money is probably huge

Definitely, he probably had a half a season of mediocre record before being fired!

Marquette has one hell of a team to win next season. Smart choice by Shaka, and no football program to compete with. Big East is getting better as well with Uconn & Georgetown rising to power.

He also has his version of Kai Jones in Jonas Aidoo if he can convince him to stay.

Beard is the guy I’m more interested in.

McCullar would be pretty high on my list if Beard left Tech.

And Micah Peavy, of course.

The University of Texas: the place where good coaches go to kill their career.

Glad Shaka found a rebound before it got messy
Herman could not.

McCullar is a baller no doubt and getting better! I’m starting to think CKS could possibly signed 3 new players on Spring.

Beard going to UT may help our recruiting since UT isn’t normally recruiting the same prospects. Beard beat us for McCullar, Peavy, Tyreek Smith, etc

They will definitely come at him hard with gazillions of cash.

Uh
why isn’t it?

UT & OU open at the same time? Delicious!

They have one of their own in Beard at tt. So, why even bother?

Hahaha Coach got it lol

FWIW there’s rumors that Tyreek Smith is considering transferring out of Tech

So Beard had a run at Tech a couple years ago. This season seemed to be a little bit of a back slide with better recruits and higher expectations.

Perfect for UT.

Shaka came off a lightening run at VCU. Goes to UT. Dies.

Charlie Strong runs off a magical tenure at Louisville. Goes to Ut. Dies.

Tom Herman rolls off some voodoo at UH. Goes to Ut. Dies.

Beard gets tech to the elite 8 after be co big 12 champs in the regular season. Going to ut

He still would have got paid!

I though the same thing. I loved watching VCU play under Smart, and when he went to the Evil Empire, I thought it was tragic. It will be fun to be able to root for his teams again.

Why would I take that job if I am Chris Beard? It is becoming pretty obvious that there is a cultural issue at U-tee and it is infecting every part of the athletic department. This issue with the school song, the constant underperforming on the field/court, and the fact that the recruits coming to U-tee are just not as good as they used to be, indicates that contrary to what a lot of T-sips believe, U-tee is not that attractive a destination for highly regarded coaches.

Honestly, who is the last successful pro football player to come from U-tee since Mack Brown left? Basketball-wise, other than Kevin Durant and LaMarcus Aldridge, their basketball players have been pretty forgettable. You have a few journeyman types like DJ Augustine and PJ Tucker, but who else? The dude from the Pacers maybe? I mean the fact that I cannot remember his name probably says it all, and I am a rabid NBA fan.

Also, it is pretty funny that U-tee and Uglyhoma are both looking for coaches. Ahh the irony. I hope they both overpay to hire Quinn Snyder or some other overrated coach.

Living in Austin over Lubbock is a pretty big plus, not to mention that UT is Beard’s alma mater.

Yeah I can’t disagree with that, but still, why leave a job where you will likely never get fired to go to some place where you will probably be forced out in 3-4 years? We have seen a lot of coaches return to their alma maters/old coaching stops that have flamed out. Kiffin and Sarkisian at USC; Scott Frost at Nebraska, Mike Anderson at Arkansas; Clyde at UH. I know there are also examples of successes, like Penny at Memphis and Roy Williams at UNC, but still I don’t think it is a slam dunk.

I agree with you that it is likely he will take the job for the reasons you stated, I am just saying he should be very careful, and that I personally would not take it.
