I disagree. He has underperformed from the stand point of the talent he has brought there just like their football team. Several of the Houston area talents (Febres, Williams) arenât heard of after going there. And so are some of the other 4 star players who have transfer and underperformed during his tenure.
He knew he was going to have a hard time duplicating anything close next year with a young and inexperienced ball club. And losing to a 15 seed didnât help him going forward at UT. I would say it warrant a hot seat type of situation on a school that was paying him handsomely for a mediocre resume. 0 tourney wins is not good either.
Shaka is better off in the Big East at a 100% hoops focused school. I think he will do well at Marquette. Itâs just a better fit. In the mean time, I can see smell the smoke all the way in DC from Austin as they are burning piles upon piles of money again. They are making Kentucky basketball fans/boosters look sane.
I look at their football program and they burn it down every three years. Itâs kinda funny. Honestly, Shaka lasted longer than I thought he would. I wouldnât be surprised if Sark starts hitting the bottle again after dealing with boosters and the loons in their athletic dept. I give him 2.5 years.
All Iâve ever heard was how horrible Lubbock is. Then I went. It was worse than I imagined. Techâs campus has a cohesive feeling with red tiled roof Spanish architecture and thereâs a 2-3 block area right off campus with Starbucks, CVS, and a few restaurants but I was surprised how small it was. I guess the bars are still on the county line due to dry laws that used to exist. Downtown was minuscule and the tallest building is abandoned. Thereâs a huge ugly garage as the tallest edifice near Tech. The place was flat, treeless, brown, windy, and the rumor of cow smell is not a lie.
It amazes me the money UT throws around just to win a championship in a sport, then when it fails they throw more money at the problem. Sounds a lot like the government.
I went to Lubbock once, at age 12, with my parents to visit friends whoâd moved there. I saw tumbleweeds blowing down their street. Everyone laughed. I never saw a reason to go back.
