ACC was the 3rd best conference this year by most metrics.
Sure.
I guess that’s why they were the only power conference without a bye, and why they got the BOTTOM TWO seeds in the playoffs.
Even a G5 got a bye ahead of the ACC.
Yah because there was an upset in their title game. Also that same G5 team got seeded ahead of the B12 champ (not that they deserved to be). So that’s not really much of an own.
I think BYU should have gotten in instead of SMU, but I don’t agree that Bama or any other SEC team deserved it over SMU
In this system the four highest ranked conference champions receive first round byes. Edit I’m just telling you this because you said “ they were the only power conference without a bye” it’s not a diss to the Acc. It’s just how seeding is determined in the CFP. It can change from year to year. Next season the g5 team might not earn the bye.
Tennessee too?
Kansas screwed it up for the league big time this year. I hope they get smacked around in hoops as payment.
Horrible thread.
This game was an anomaly. It was the definition of sometimes ‘*hit happens’.
Check the stats …Penn St only out gained them by 75 yards yet won by 28. 3 picks, 2 for TD’s, plus the bonehead 4th down play that cost SMU and early TD were the difference.
Sometimes qbs have bad games. He cost them the game but they 1000% “deserved” to be there.
Makes me appreciate Greg Ward Jr even more …that guy was money in big games.
Say OP …you gunna open a similar thread about Tennessee??? They’re down by about the same while only gaining 187 yards vs OSUs 422 through 3 quarters…getting their arse handed to them Without turning the ball over once.
I honestly think Kansas was the best team in the Big 12 this season
Is anyone gonna say that about Tennessee? Cuz they just got murked
I can’t say that I am surprised at the number of CFP mismatches this weekend, but if it means that the CFP Committee revises the playoff criteria next year, it is worth it.
Always been a problem with rankings and it really flaws this system. SMU was in because it wasn’t fair to penalize the for playing the extra game. Problem is they should have never been ranked that high to begin with. When they had the chance to show something against a non playoff contender in Clemson they got hammered for three quarters before losing at the end. They didn’t have to play South Carolina who I think was really the best team or Miami.
Same for Miami when they kept climbing in the rankings after narrow wins over sub par opponents. That should matter! One win was even gifted to them at the end which should have been a loss. Again, that should matter! What needed up happening is two teams got in that shouldn’t have from the same conference.
I think ASU deserves the crown, given that they won the league outright and beat KU but Kansas was definitely better than where they finished.
More yards despite having fewer possessions
Yah after all the whining by Bama/SEC fans the worst performance of the night was by Tennessee. Bama would’ve gotten waxed if they’d played Penn St. today. What we’re seeing is the end of the SEC era. It’s still a great league but it is no longer head and shoulders above everyone else. The B10 is at least on par if not slightly better at the top.
I disagree. INDIANA didnt deserve a playoff spot. I predicted an a$$whooping for SMU the minute I found out they had to go to Penn State. They were NOT ready for that weather and it showed. If that game is in a bowl, I’m confident the final score would’ve been a lot closer
People piled in on Indy because they played Friday and at the time their loss looked bad but it ended up being the most competitive first round game. No chance Bama would’ve done better.
So will the Kirk herbstreets of the universe say Tennessee should not have been invited? Sec! Sec! Sec!
Also, watching the Pat mcafee show field pass is so much better than the game day people.
Tennessee was HIGHLY overrated. 1st off, they lost to ARKANSAS; the same Arkansas who lost to Ok St, the WORST Big 12 team this year. That was completely ignored bc they beat a THREE LOSS Alabama.
That Alabama team lost to Vanderbilt two weeks after Vandy lost to (3-9) Georgia State. They also got blasted by an OU team who needed the refs’ help on that phantom “muffed punt” by Mews to beat US, a 4-8 team.
Outside of TN getting dogwalked by Georgia, the rest of their schedule was GARBAGE. The SEC simply wasnt as good this year as a lot of people like to think & Tennessee got the benefit of the doubt bc of that exact bias. Same goes for Indiana. BYU & Miami were much more deserving of being in the playoffs IMO
Actually it is a diss because if their conference champion couldn’t finish among the top five, and their top two teams were bottom seeds, it reflects on the caliber of the conference.
